Down the rabbit hole of watching All the Butlers

A variety show: All the Butlers

Four years ago, I would have said "No." to watching All the Butlers or Master in the House, its first episode aired on the December of 2017. Even last year, my friends started watching this TV show and they've been so eager in telling me how great this show is. I wasn't fond of watching variety shows because there were so many subtitles and captions to read in one frame, it's not too funny to watch, and the episodes usually last an hour. Those were my reasons, and now, I've long gone parted with those excuses of mine. I enjoy and love it now. For the reasons why, I have listed some:

It portrays healthy relationships

The original casts (or the butlers) of All the Butlers are Lee Seung-gi, Yang Se-hyung, Lee Sang-yoon, and Yook Sung-jae. As of now, new casts have joined the show and two of the ones I've mentioned have left the show. I'm currently watching this TV show and the episodes I've seen so far are the ones with the four butlers I have mentioned. When I started on this show, I only knew Seung-gi (a well-known performer in South Korea, I knew him through K-dramas) and Sung-jae (a member of an idol group, BtoB). But as I go through each episodes, I've become so attached to the chemistry of the four, that I started to look at them as a healthy picture of a brotherhood. The four butlers were first strangers to each other but through the show, they became a dear friend to one another.

The first time all the butlers sleep in the same room with their master, they usually compete for that honor.

It is packed with so much wisdom

I haven't watch a lot of variety shows, this is actually the second time I'm watching this genre of TV show. But one thing I know is that, a variety show has a theme where in each episode is stand alone or with a story of its own. In the case of All the Butlers, it centers on the theme that the butlers will get to know the life of their master for a whole day. There are 2 episodes dedicated for each of the master that was invited by the show. When I thought that I was just in for some laughs, I was wrong, this show has taught me wisdom through the life of the master. I was learning with the butlers without the need to join in with their competitive games.

Seung-gi sharing what he learned from their master about what dream is.

The masters invited in the show were very different, most are well-known in South Korea. Almost all of the episodes I have watched so far feature a master that I don't have an idea of who they are. I thought it would affect my liking towards the show but then again, I was wrong. I've learned that even a stranger could impart wisdom when he or she lives a great life. A great life for me is not just about having the power, fame, wealth, or the things that this world says matter greatly. A great life for me is the one that have endured a lot. That also maybe the reason why the episodes that feature a master who is an athlete or someone related to sports are my favorite episodes in the show.

It is with chunk of reality

Lee Sang-yoon, the oldest butler, is definitely my favorite butler. It's funny because I watch this show for Seung-gi and Sung-jae but I ended up relating to Sang-yoon. The difference of variety show to other TV shows is that it has a chunk of reality. Yes, there's still a story line they follow but the script or the things the actors say are theirs.

The time they tried to conquer their fear of spooky things.

Like Sang-yoon, I have majored in Physics, I enjoy the TV Show The Big Bang Theory, and I am an introvert, those are the things we have in common. There were actually times in the show that I've seen myself in Sang-yoon. On how he responds and acts on the show are things that I might do too when put in that same situation.

These are just some of the reasons why I love this show. If you're looking for these kinds of things too, you might want to check this out. This show brought to me not just laughter, nor just tears, but a whole lot of life. A friend has put it into words: the feeling of watching each episode, brings you to a spiritual retreat. Let me know if you have watched this show too, you may want to talk about the episodes you have loved.
