What if you are given the chance to live the life that you have been fantasizing about? A chance to experience the things that could only happen in a dream. A choice to redo your life?
All of that is possible in...
Blumhouse's Fantasy Island
The movie was released in February of this year (2020). I haven't seen it until today when I was browsing my Netflix and spot this movie under the Horror/Thriller section. Normally, I would check on the current rating (Rotten Tomatoes) of the movie before I play but not for this one (half of me regret this decision... now you see where is this going).
Anyway, let's learn more about the movie.
Casts
Personally, I think that a big story like this would require a really good set of actors to fill in the roles. I would say that many of the actors are underwhelming while there are few who are able to really step into their roles. I commend Michael Pena for his role as Mr. Roarke (the Keeper/Protector of Fantasy Island) and Maggie Q for her role as Gwen Olsen (one of the guests in Fantasy Island). It feels like the other actors were not convincing enough in a thriller type of movie.
Picture
Overall, the quality of the picture on major scenes is good. The Fantasy Island itself is picture-perfect.
Although there are scenes that looked like it was taken from a clunky backdrop, I still think that it's acceptable to some degree; or maybe it's just bad acting?.
Story
There's something about the story that made me watched all the way until the end. I really like the concept however, there is a lot of disconnect along the sequence of the scenes.
What I expect in a horror movie is the transition from calm to chaos and finish it with a relief of being alive (like a roller coaster ride). Unfortunately, I didn't get that from this movie. It has a strong appeal in the early part but then it got confusing and boring in the middle part. That made me lose focus on the story up to the end where it got more confusing.
I know that thriller movies are naturally confusing and chaotic but this one is way too much twist-and-turns. There's too much disconnect on the twists that I failed to understand what was the story is about. it's not a wonder why it scored really low on major movie rating websites.
This is the part where I regret not checking on the ratings before I watched the movie.
Anyway, that concludes my thoughts about the movie.
For the last note, I would say that it's still a watchable movie since the overall plot is exciting enough. The story has a good appeal regardless of the poor execution of some parts of the scenes.

Well, that is disappointing! However, I probably will still watch it, but, with less expectation.
Thanks for the review!! I treasure them!
Yes, it's watchable ;) maybe I expected too much on this one.
I forgot to mention, there are good funny scenes delivered by Jimmy O. Yang ;)
Thank you, you are awesome!
Oh lala! that series was one of my favorites, you made me remember TATU! my time when I was a child. I have not seen this new production, but it has a great challenge ahead. I was pleased to read you.
The plane is coming, the plane is coming!
Good vibes.
Oh yeah, I just learned about the series. I really thought that it's a new movie. This re-make has a bigger production than the series so it might be something that you will appreciate.
This part got me excited :D
Thanks for dropping-by my post :)
