Obviously! Warriors of the Rainbow is one of Taiwan's biggest ever film that i've seen, and probably the most expensive ever made. This is actuallly a story of Seediq Bale, that tells the resistance, then the uprising of a native people of the island of Taiwan, following the cession of the Japanese in 1895. The film shows how these tribes lived before and during the Japanese colonization of Taiwan.

Movie: Warriors Of The Rainbow (2011)
Genre: Action, Drama, History
Director: Te-Sheng Wei
Cast: Nolay Piho, Yuki Daki, Umin Boya, Masanobu Andō, and Kawahara Sabu

Synopsis: An indigenous clan-based people living in harmony with nature find their way of life threatened when violent interlopers from another culture arrive, intent on seizing their natural resources and enslaving them. (Imdb)

Review: Be warned!! The film is extremely gory, with quite a lot of beheading scenes. So due to its extreme violence, is definitely not for everyone. If you are a person who has problems with screen violence then this ain't for you. - After seeing this movie, i must say the director, Te-Sheng Wei really tried with how he'd impressively tells the tragic and violent "Wushe incident", when the aboriginal tribes rebelled against the Japanese occupiers in the 1930s. The first part shows the situation in Taiwan during the Japanese occupation as well as the different characters of the history, and the second part is dedicated to the revolt and massacre of Seediq by Japanese troops. I loved this film for the realization and the historical side. Although, the film does not show nice aborigines on one side and Japanese bad guys on the other. The different aboriginal tribes were always hitting each other with machetes before the Japanese arrived, and did not live with love.

What i really enjoyed most about the movie is how the battle scenes where impressively directed, they're fast paced with a lot of excitement and thrills, there's explosions, blood splatters and much like you'd expect from a movie coming out from Taiwan. Throughout the movie you'll be introduced to numerous characters, both on the aboriginal side and the Japanese side. The director really made me compare this movie to that of Mel Gibson's Apocalypto in reminiscent to the survival part of the movie. I'm glad i watched this movie, as it made me learn quite a lot of things about the way of life of the aborigines of Taiwan and this little known story. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
