Happy weekend fans, I hope you are enjoying your weekend over there? What I'm sharing with you today is the nutritious Leave called Ewedu in Yoruba, in English Jute Leave.
Ewedu also known as Jute Leave is one of the most popular vegetables among the Yoruba people of the southwestern part of Nigeria. However, it's also eaten among other tribes of the country. It's usually eaten with starchy food like Amala, Eba, Pounded Yam and Semovita e.t.c
Ewedu requires a well-drained Loamy soil that is rich in organic matter. It thrives well in areas of moderate fall or under where water is normally pumped. However, you can plant Ewedu any time of the year as long as you can provide adequate access to water through irrigation facilities. The ground should be tilled to make it soft as you can see below.
How to plant Ewedu (Jute Leave)
There are various systems of planting seeds; We have Broadcast, Dibbling, Drilling e.t.c; for vegetable seeds, Broadcasting and drilling are the best. Jute Leave is propagated by seed. The seed typically requires scarification to begin germination or the seed may be soaked in boiling water for 10 seconds, and plant immediately, if the plant is to be harvested by uprooting, the seed should be planted with a 30-50 row spacing.
