DO NOT REST ON COLLAPSIBLES
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and rests his confidence upon him" (Jeremiah 17:7, NEB)
We live in a world of stupendous and unimaginable wickedness. Many have
lost faith in national security protocols. Many have resigned to fate. Once a person gets money, a little above subsistence level in this country, the foremost issue to be engaged is security services. There are dangers in the neighbourhood, kidnappers on the highways, swindlers in offices, ritualists all over town, and the church is not exempt. Where then can relief be found? The scripture has not left us in the dark "Except the Lord builds a house, they labour in vain, them that build it. Except the Lord watches a city, the watchmen are wasting their time"(Psalms 127:1).
Security details all over the world are tilted to the advantage of interest groups. If you are outside the interest confines, God is the only respite at your disposal. A young soldier from one of the far states came to me visibly, jittery because of the unbelievable insincerity he witnessed at the war front. He said that is not what he bargained for and if it was possible, he would bow out. In other words, what he was resting on had turned to an embarrassment. That is the experience of many down the ages.
Former CIA Agent (Security Officer) Bill Oxley confessed in his death bed that he eliminated Bob Marley on behalf of the authorities. He admitted at the Mercy Hospital in Maine at the age of 79 and said he had weeks to live. He did not shoot him but implanted a virus and he died gradually. Many of us trust the authorities that our well-being is their major concern. It is not so. Relying on the securities of this world is like resting on collapsible. God is the only security that never fails. Put your trust in Him and you will never be disappointed.
Trusting and relying on mortals is self-destructive but trusting God is the only certainty for our safety. He never fails.
