THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND HIS WORK
The Holy Spirit is God. That is, co-equal with God the Father and God the Son, also is of the same essence. The Holy Ghost is uniquely distinct from them.
The attributes, qualities, and activities (work) of the Holy Spirit. By examining the Scriptural References:
Scripture describes the Holy Spirit in personal terms, not an impersonal force. Such as; He teaches, guides, comforts and intercedes. [Jn 14:26; Jn 15:26, Jn 16:13-14, Rom 8:14; Rom 8:26-27]
He possesses emotions, intellect and will. [Ephs 4:30; 1 Cor 2:10–14; 1 Cor 12:11]
The Holy Spirit spoke to Philip and others to give counsel to the church. [Act 8:29; Act 13:1-3, Act 15:28]
He was sinned against and lied to. [Isa 63:10, Act 5:3-4]
The Scriptures attest to the Deity of the Holy Spirit. He is spoken of as God, and is identified as Jehovah (LORD). [Act 5:1–4; 2 Cor 3:17, Isa 6:8-9, Jer 31:31–34; Heb 10:15-16]
The believer who is indwelt by the Spirit is indwelt by God. [Jn 14:16-17,1 Cor 3:16; 1 Cor 6:19; Eph 2:22]
The Holy Spirit possesses the attributes of Deity, such as omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence and eternality. [1 Cor 2:10–11; Ps 139:7; Zech 4:6; Heb 9:14]
He does works only God can do, such as creating, regenerating and sanctifying. [Gen 1:2; Jn 3:6; 2 Thes 2:13]
He is equally associated with the other members of the Trinity. [Mat 28:19-20; 2 Cor 13:14, 1 Jn 5:4-7]
The work of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament (OT) differed from His work in the New Testament. The possession of the Holy Spirit by the believer was not permanent in OT. [Ps 51:11, Jn 14:16-17]
The Spirit had a ministry of restraining sin and in the creation of the world. [Gen 6:3, Isa 63:10; Gen 1:2, Isa 40:12-14, Job 33:4]
The Holy Spirit plays key role in the salvation of the believer. The Spirit brings conviction to the unbeliever and imparts saving faith. [Jn 16:8–11]
Those who receive conviction by the Spirit with faith in Jesus Christ are saved, having eternal life and a new nature. [Jn 3:3–7; 2 Cor 5:17, Titus 3:5]
The Holy Spirit unites the believer with Christ and places him in the body of Christ, the church. [1 Cor 12:13, Eph 2:18-20]
He unites the believer in Christ through faith, and in His death, to live victoriously over sin. [Rom 6:1–10, 1 Cor 15:57]
The Holy Spirit helps and empowers the believer who submits to God, His Word, and Prays always. [Rom 12:1-2, Eph 5:17-21; Col 3:16-17, Rom 8:26-27, Eph 6:18, Jude 20]
The believer is to live and walk in grace and power of the Spirit to be productive and fruitful [Gal 5:16, 22-23]
The Holy Spirit indwells the believer [Jn 14:16-17, 1 Cor 3:16-17, 1 Cor 6:19-20]
The child of God may sin and grieve the Spirit, but the Spirit will never leave the believer. [Eph 4:30]
Absence of the Holy Spirit is the mark of the unsaved. [Jn 14:16-17, Rom 8:9; Jude 1:19]
Holy Spirit bears witness that the believer is a child of God. [Jn 15:26-27, Rom 8:16]
Holy Spirit testifies, witnesses, and glorifies Christ [Jn 15:26-27, Jn 16:13-14, Act 1:8]
Holy Spirit seals the believer. [2 Cor 1:22; Ephs 1:13; Ephs 4:30]
This ministry guarantees the security of the believer. [Ephs 4:30]
The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts to every believer. [Rom 12:3-8; 1 Cor 12:7-11, 27-31; Ephs 4:10-13]
The Holy Spirit's restraint of evil in the world will cease at the rapture [2 Thes 2:7]
Holy Spirit will continue to be present in the earth in tribulation period for the salvation of the remnant of Israel. [Zech 12:10 (Rev 1:7); Joel 2:28–32, Rom 9:27-29]
In the coming Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit will be in God's people and the Spirit will be upon the King. [Isa 11:1–4, Jer 31:31-34, Ezek 36:26-27, Ezek 48:35, Rev 22:17].
