We heard a rumour that there is gold in Wolfe Lake near Westport Ontario. So we grabbed our prospecting tools, pans, metal detectors, kayaks and headed out.
We spent the day exploring many of the granite outcrops along the North Shore and noticed many large Quartzite veins running through the bedrock on the bottom of the lake … a good sign of gold. Unfortunately we did not bring our Scuba gear on this trip.
We paddled for hours testing the rocks with our Garrett Metal Detectors and collected a few samples to test.
Large Quartz crystals embedded in the bedrock….
Along one area of the shore, in about 2 feet of water, the bottom seemed to be glittering with gold. We reached in and grabbed what we could … we quickly realized that it was mica. These are in the photos above.
So, no gold yet but we have many quartz samples to go through and some black sand to pan.
Stay tuned for more …

Omg you live my dream ! This quarts looks awesome and clean! What a good time!
Do you know about more kinds of gems that possible to find there?
It's worth research
I am doing more research now…. There all kinds of stories of caves filled with gold in nearby Eldorado. The largest rock and gem show in Canada takes place in nearby Bancroft Ontario so I am sure there are all kinds of gems in the areas all around us. Many top secret mines….

That is pretty nice! Good quality tourmaline is very expensive
Awesome… we are hoping to head there soon. Will see if we can find some tourmaline… any others we should look for on that list ?
All are pretty nice but for my opinion tourmaline is the best and garnet is good too
Energetic are all good but for value I think tourmaline
Ok … will look for those…. Any colour better than others ?
Always, sure
But as I saw I'm not sure you can find rare kinds there.. as I see online
It can be nice anyhow to find good gems and metals!
I like it very much it's interesting
I spent half the day planning once in Georgia at Moccasin Creek State Park. Didn't find any color.
Found out later that I was merely 5 miles outside the zone.
Yeah… there’s always gold a few miles away from wherever you go panning. Happens all the time to me too.
Beautiful crystal, not less than gold 😊
Yeah ... I like the Clear crystal Quartz too ... I will share more photos of these from our Local Treasure hunts
Wow this is really interesting.
Never seen anything like this before
