Weekend in Mallín Ahogado visiting a farm, the perfect adventure [ENG-ESP]

Travelling through the Mallín Ahogado circuit in El Bolsón is like taking a tour in the middle of an untouched, virgin nature, where every now and then in the middle of a coniferous forest a farm appears, a farm dedicated to agriculture (in the few parts that the forest allows it), to cattle raising, with animals that roam loose all day long in the forest and return at night to sleep in the stables, and to the production of fine fruit and hops, among other things.

In this rugged and unique natural environment where internet is almost non-existent, drinking water comes from boreholes drilled in the ground and satellite TV is limited to a minimum of channels, we decided to spend a weekend here last November.

It is the ideal time to do so with heat that is not excessive and with noticeable temperature variations throughout the day.

It is the area called Mallín Ahogado and visitors from all over the world know from experience that much of the magic that surrounds El Bolsón is concentrated in this area, surrounded by native forests, rivers, lakes and streams of glacial origin, waterfalls and productive establishments in absolute and total harmony with nature.

This is what we hear about on a daily basis as "ecological production", where fortunately toxic agro-chemicals, fertilisers, herbicides and agro-chemicals in general have not yet arrived. They have remained in the intensive cultivation areas. And this is not one of them.

Here the cultivation is selective and in small quantities. There is no large production.

In Mallín Ahogado, or simply Mallín, as the locals call it, we find that comfort characterised by the peace of the rural environment so different from the comfort of the big cities.

Here, the comforts are the green spaces and the time lapses that pass without haste or pause. Electronics play a secondary role and mobile phones serve their original purpose, i.e. to communicate. It is difficult to find anyone playing games, chatting, or simply being attentive to not miss any beep from that device that has become an integral part of the human being.

But adventure is not absent, on the contrary, the possibilities of exploring this natural environment in more adventurous ways are always within reach, whether horseback riding, rafting, canopy, or more relaxed walks through the dense vegetation.

Listening to the sound of the river and the streams of the area with the wind rustling in the tops of the tall pintos and alerce trees that accompany us all along the route is a typical delight that has to be lived to be told, it is a unique experience.

Travellers who want to continue exploring the great number of trails that connect the largest network of mountain refuges in South America with the rest of the populated centres of the Andean Region can do so without any difficulty, as well as accessing the itineraries that lead to the Cerro Perito Moreno, the most important winter recreational centre in the area.

Some of these farms also function as tourist centres. The most well known is the Wharton farm, which is very well organised and is an unavoidable stop for those who wish to enter some of the mountain refuges of El Bolsón.

It has facilities to park the vehicle, camp, enjoy delicious food and drinks, and receive information about the tourist attractions of the region, obviously all services for a fee.

In our case we preferred to visit the finca of some friends, free of charge and with similar facilities.

Some of the cennet trees have to be felled because of the risk of falling over the houses. In that case you have to ask for permission from the municipality of El Bolsón.

It is a real pity because they are very tall, vigorous and healthy plants of many years of age.

However, that magnificent height that makes them so beautiful (especially the conifers) is the main danger, as they have very shallow roots and the strong winds that usually blow through the region at irregular intervals cause them to collapse, uprooted.

In addition to all these scenic attractions, where the natural environment is the master of the Andean Region, during all this journey and the weekend we spent at the farm we could find hops and fine fruit producers, sheep dairy farms that give rise to excellent cheeses, wood and wrought iron artisans that give life to all expressions of nature that can be imagined and to all aspects of daily life in these places, wood and wrought iron craftsmen who give life to all imaginable expressions of nature and to all aspects of daily life in these places, and last but not least the hydroelectric complex of Loma Atravesada, which supplies energy to El Bolsón.

Among all the valleys of southern Río Negro in particular and Patagonia in general, El Bolsón has the air and fame of a legend. And much of this myth comes from the sometimes impenetrable forests of Mallín Ahogado.

A magic that lasts all year round, even if in winter the snow sports are enhanced higher up on the Cerro Perito Moreno (named after the famous glacier) and that integrates perfectly with the enchanting magic of the forests, the dull murmur of the waterfalls and the labyrinthine mountain trails to make you feel at one with nature.

Recorrer el circuito Mallín Ahogado en El Bolsón es como hacer un recorrido en medio de una naturaleza intacta, virgen, donde de vez en cuando en medio de un bosque de coníferas aparace una chacra, una finca dedicada a la agricultura (en las escasas partes que el bosque lo permite), a la ganadería, con los animales que vagan sueltos durante todo el día en el bosque y regresan a la noche para dormir en los establos, y a la producción de fruta fino y lúpulo entre otras cosas.

En este ambiente natural tan agreste como único donde Internet es casi inexistente, el agua para beber proviene de perforaciones propias hechas en el terreno y la televisión satelital es limitada al mínimo de canales, decidimos pasar un fin de semana en el pasado mes de noviembre.

Es el tiempo ideal para hacerlo con un calor que no es excesivo y con notables variaciones de temperatura durante todo el día.

Decidimos dejar de lado los tradicionales circuitos turísicos a los que se puede acceder y de los que les voy a hablar en detalle en posts sucesivos tomando el primer desvío a la izquierda para acceder a la cascada Escondida, a la Catarata del Mallín o el cerro Perito Moreno, para concentrarnos en la rutina de la vida diaria de una familia que vive todos los días del año en estas chacras, aisladas por así decirlo, del resto de la Comarca Andina.

Una vida de trabajo en el campo como en muchas otras partes de Argentina, solo que en vez de la llanura en este caso se practica en medio de un bosque tan intrincable como hermoso, el cuál se puede transitar a veces a caballo, a veces en tractor, en pickup o simplemente a pie, caminando.

Es la zona llamada Mallín Ahogado y visitantes de todo el mundo saben por experiencia vivida que gran parte de la magia que rodea El Bolsón se concentra en esta zona, rodeada por bosques nativos, rios, lagos y arroyos de origen glacial, saltos de agua y establecimientos productivos en una absoluta y total armonía con la naturaleza.

Algo de lo que sentimos hablar a diario como "producción ecológica" donde por suerte los agrotóxicos, fertilizantes, herbicidas y agroquímicos en general todavía no hay llegado. Se han quedado en las zonas de cultivo intensivo. Y esta no lo es.

Aquí el cultivo es selectivo y en pequeñas cantidades. No hay grandes producciones.

En el Mallín Ahogado, o simplemente Mallín, como lo llama la gente del lugar, encontramos esa comodidad caracterizada por la paz del ambiente rural tan distinta de la comodidad de las grandes ciudades.

Aquí las comodidades son los espacios verdes y los lapsos de tiempo que pasan sin prisa y sin pausa. La electrónica tiene un rol secundario y los celulares sirven para su cometido primigenio, es decir comunicar. Difícilmente se encuentre a alguien jugando, chateando, o simplemente estando atento a no perderse ningún bip de aquel dispositivo que ha pasado a ser parte integrante del ser humano.

Pero no por ello la aventura está ausente, al contrario, las posibilidades de explorar este contorno natural de maneras mas venturosa está siempre al alcance de la mano haciendo cabalgatas, rafting, canopy, o más relajadas como los paseos entre la vegetación espesa.

Algunas de estas fincas funcionan también como centros turísticos. > La más comocida es la chacra Wharton muy bien organizada y que resulta un paso ineludible para todos aquellos que quieran ingresar a algunos de los refugios de montaña de El Bolsón.

Tiene comodidades para estacionar el vehículo, acampar, disfrutar de exquisitas comidas y bebidas, y recibir información acerca de los atractivos turísticos de la región, obviamente todos servicios de pago.

En nuestro caso preferimos visitar la finca de unos amigos, gratuita y con comodidades similares.

Algunos árboles cennetarios deben ser abatidos por el riesgo de caerse arriba de las viviendas. En ese caso hay que pedir la respectiva autorización a la comuna de El Bolsón.

Es una verdadera pena porque son plantas de muchos años, altísimas, vigorosas y con óptimo estado de salud.

Sin embargo esa magnífica altura que las hace tan bellas (especialmente las coníferas) es el principal peligro, ya que tienen raíces muy poco profundas y los fuertes vientos que suelen azotar la región a intervalos irregulares provocan que se desplomen, arrancadas de raíz.

Escuchar el sonido del río y los arroyos de la zona con el viento que rumorea en las copas d elos altos pintos y alerces que nos acompañan en todo el recorrido es una delicia típica que hay que vivirla para contarla, es una experiencia única.

Los viajeros que quieren seguir explorando la gran cantidad de senderos que conectan la red de refugios de montaña más grande de Sudamérica con el resto de los centros poblados de la Comarca Andina pueden hacerlo sin ningún tipo de dificultad, como también acceder a los itinerarios que conducen al Cerro Perito Moreno, el centro recreativo invernal mas importante de la zona.

Además de todos estos atractivos paisajísticos, donde es entorne de la naturaleza es amo y seño de la Comarca Andina, durante todo este trayecto y el fin de semana que pasamos en la finca se pudimos encontrar productores de lúpulo y fruta fina, fincas lecheras de ovejas que dan origen a excelentes quesos, artesanos de la madera y del hierro forjado que dan vida a todas las expresiones de la naturaleza que se puedan imaginar y a todos los aspectos de la vida cotidiana en estos lugares, y por último y no menos importante el complejo hidroeléctrico de Loma Atravesada, que nutre de energía a El Bolsón.

Entre todos los valles del sur rionegrino en particular y d ela Patagonia en general, El Bolsón tiene aires y fama de leyenda. Y mucha de ese mito proviene de los bosques, a veces impenetrables, del Mallín Ahogado.

Una magia que dura todo el año, aunque de invierno se potencien los deportes de la nieve más arriba en el Cerro Perito Moreno (lleva el mismo nombre del famoso glaciar) y que se integra a la perfección con la encantadora magia de los bosques, el sordo rumor de las cascadas y los laberínticos senderos de montaña para sentirse todo uno con la naturaleza.
