We leave Lake Correntoso with all its energy and beauty, which I have already mentioned, to continue our journey of these 100 kms (few compared to the enormous surface of the whole Patagonia) full of lakes, Andean Patagonian forests and a fauna and flora that allows us to marvel at every moment.

For those who have been following us, this is the third lake from Villa La Angostura in the direction of San Martín de los Andes or the fourth and penultimate one for those who do this route the other way round, i.e. going down from San Martín de los Andes on route 40 in the direction of Villa La Angostura and then following the route in the direction of Bariloche turning right or Neuquén turning left.

133.-20210901_091727.jpg

We drive a few kilometres and this time we find a relatively comfortable place to park the car.

From the road we descend to a small, sandy beach, the only one on this entire route, which people normally use to take a dip and also to stay in tents for a few days, as the relatively flat area allows it.

133.-20210901_094622.jpg

During the summer tourism season there is a grocery store and nearby there are farms and estates where you can buy local products and handicrafts.

Located in the heart of the Nahuel Huapi Park, we offer you the experience of camping surrounded by nature.

133.-20211111_130347_HDR.jpg

The campsite is located in a strategic place to see and visit the lake, the hills and the beach, allowing the traveller to rest and making this place an obligatory stop for all those who really want to know the route of the 7 lakes.

It has two different camping areas (one for young people and the other for families) although both have the same services, which are: toilets and showers with hot and cold water, electricity during the night, a place for motorhomes and cabins, a barbecue area with grills and picnic areas, a boat launch to go out on the lake, a place authorised for fishing (you have to get a permit) and a self-service restaurant with basic food products. Reservations are not accepted, but occupancy is on a first-come, first-served basis. For this reason it is recommended to arrive early in the morning.

133.-20211111_130216.jpg

The close contact with nature has its advantages and disadvantages for those who do not know how to appreciate it or who are not able to leave their mobile phones all day long.

For example, there is no signal in most of the area. Therefore the ideal is to download all the necessary information to see it offline.

133.-20211111_161909_HDR.jpg

The services of the campsite are paid only in cash (no cards are accepted) and there are no ATMs in the area.

There is no rental of tents or other items for cooking, for example. Tourists must bring absolutely everything they need.

133.-20210901_082605.jpg

Due to its characteristics, almost the entire route is far from internet and wi-fi zones. The climatic variations are quite improvised. You can go from cold to hot, rainy or windy, so it is advisable to be prepared with light and warm clothing.

For birdwatching lovers, the campsite and the shores of the lake are frequented by the Cauquén, a species of wild duck typical of the Patagonian forests, who frequently wander around with their young couples without fearing humans.

133.-20210901_082711.jpg

There are numerous recommendations to be careful with fire in times of drought and not to start fires that devastate the Patagonian biodiversity, unique in its kind.

The name of the lake is a tribute to Thomas Faulkner, an English Jesuit missionary priest from the 18th century who carried out an important task of evangelisation of the Patagonian natives, especially in this area, experiences that he later wrote about in his book entitled "Description of Patagonia and the contiguous parts of South America".

133.-20210901_082648.jpg

The forests surrounding Faulkner Lake are mainly lenga (also called Tierra del Fuego oak, southern beech or white oak) and coihues (or coigüe, a plant native to the northern Chilean Cordillera forest).

Following the numerous trails around the Falkner Lake you can climb the Falkner Hill, whose summit offers 360 degree panoramic views of unforgettable beauty, especially the Villarino and Falkner Lakes, the eternal snow-capped peaks of the Tronador Hill, the Lanin volcano and a spectacular panorama of the Seven Lakes Route 40, which starts and disappears among the endless mountain valleys in the centre of the Andes Mountain Range.

133.-20210901_082636.jpg

And don't forget to respect nature, which gives us everything without asking for anything. Let's not contribute to its destruction with irresponsible attitudes.

Until our next meeting, #blurttians friends, on this wonderful itinerary of the Andean lakes!
