The traditional Christmas and New Year holidays are a good excuse and source of inspiration for the get-togethers with friends that we delay throughout the year and remember to organise on this date.
To tell the truth I have spent these holidays in the most disparate climates.
When I lived in Europe, the end of the year celebrations were impregnated with that particular Christmas charm, in which the cold, the snow and everything that we have understood since we were children to have to do with Father Christmas, his red jumper, the bag of presents, the sleigh and the reindeer were associated.
Living in recent years in the far south of South America, I have had to readapt to the old ways of my childhood (before emigrating with my parents to Europe).
Eating fresh fruit instead of the traditional Christmas chocolate for example. And low calorie meals.
Now we celebrate Christmas in almost forty degrees and so the celebrations take on a different dimension.
But that doesn't stop us from associating with our friends.
It's funny because on the one hand we see our friends skiing and playing in the snow while at the same time we celebrate Christmas in swimming costumes and in the water.
First, and honouring the tradition of this country, a beautiful folkloric party, with dances, songs, choirs and days spent outdoors in the wonderful square of Lago Puelo, in the middle of the Argentinean Patagonia.
It is a very pleasant atmosphere where you can enjoy the coolness of the afternoon when the sun starts to go down the mountains.
In our region, that is to say in all the Andean Region that extends along the foothills of the Andes, this custom is very deeply rooted and for this reason festivals and popular celebrations are very common, especially at this time of the year.
These are mixed with the craft fairs organised throughout the region, in every village, no matter how small or remote it may be. Wood craftsmen make marvellous works of art.
And then to enjoy the sea! We get ready, grab our swimming costumes and head for the Patagonian Atlantic beaches.
We have to travel a couple of hundred kilometres, but at last we can change scenery and enjoy these beautiful Patagonian beaches where the rigours of the heat are felt a little less.
Most of the tourists have not yet arrived and the beaches can be enjoyed in all their splendour: in their natural beauty and in total tranquillity.

Las tradicionales fiestas de Navidad y Año Nuevo son una buena excusa y fuente de inspiración para las reuniones con los amigos que demoramos a lo largo del año y nos acordamos de organizar en esta fecha.
A decir la verdad he pasado estas fiestas en los climas más dispares.
Cuando vivía en Europa las fiestas de fin de año estaban impregnadas de ese particular encanto navideño, en el cuál viene asociado el frío, la nieve y todo lo que desde pequeños hemos entendido que tiene que ver con Santa Claus, su buzo rojo, la bolsa de regalos, el trineo y los renos.
Al pasar a vivir en estos últimos años en el extremo sur de Sudamérica he debido readaptarme a las viejas usanzas de cuando era pequeño (antes de emigrar con mis padres a Europa).
Comer fruta fresca en lugar del tradicional chocolate navideño por ejemplo. Y comidas con pocas calorías.
Ahora festejamos la Navidad con casi cuarenta grados de temperatura y por eso los festejos adquieren una dimensión distinta.
Pero no por ello dejamos de asociarnos con nuestros amigos.
Es curioso porque por un lado vemos a nuestros amigos esquiando y jugando con nieve mientras en simultánea nosotros festejamos la Navidad en trajes de baño y en el agua.
Primero, y honorando la tradición de este país, una linda fiesta floklorica, con bailes, cantos, coros y jornadas pasadas al aire libre en la estupenda plaza de Lago Puelo, en plena Patagonia argentina.
Es un ambiente muy agradable donde se disfruta del fresco de la tarde cuando el sol comienza a bajar por las montañas.
En nuestra región, es decir en toda la Comarca Andina que se extiende en las faldas de la Cordillera de los Andes) está muy arraigada esta costumbre y por ese motivo la realización de festivales y fiestas populares es muy común sobre todo en esta época del año.
Que se mezclan a las ferias artesanales organizadas en toda la región, en cada pueblo, por más pequeño y alejado que esté. Artesanos de la madera hacen obras maravillosas.
Y luego a disfrutar del mar! Nos preparamos, agarramos los trajes de baño y salimos rumbo a las playas atlánticas patagónicas.
Tenemos que hacer un par de centenar de kms, eso si, pero al fin podemos cambiar paisaje y disfrutar de estas hermosas playas patagónicas donde los rigores del calor se sienten un poco menos.
