It is actually a hot 32°C weather that I am experiencing right now in this part of Northwestern Philippines of which I am on a hammock that I tied between an avocado and a mango tree in our yard and I can't help myself thinking of things that can make me feel comfortably cool. Then my mind brought me to events that happened in the previous years particularly the times when I am on the mountain on a rainy day gathering wild mushrooms of which many people dubbed these stuff as food of the gods and here's my story:
Eureka! That was exactly I exclaimed when I was walking one misty morning along a mountain trail going uphill. That is when I found something littered the ground underneath the vegetation and it turned out to be wild Termitomyces fungi or edible termite mushrooms with their caps that are not yet fully opened.
So I stopped for a while to further search the area for some more but I end up empty handed and resumed my walk to proceed to another hill and find some bamboo shoots and this one caught my attention, a mushroom that looks so unusual to me.
I took a few clicks of this peculiar looking mushroom and uploaded the snapshots to a Facebook group that identifies mushrooms and learned that the mushroom is Phallus indusiatus that is commonly known as bamboo fungus and other names such as bamboo pith; long net stinkhorn; crinoline stinkhorn and veiled lady.
Looking at the view from the top, I saw that the day is getting gloomy as if it is going to rain so I immediately walked downhill for home.
It indeed rained on that day but I feel alright as rainy days for me is a season of abundance of which there are many edible stuff that can be gathered from the mountain.
Then on the following day, I climbed the mountain once again, this time, earlier as I am optimistic that I can find more wild edible mushrooms and I proved myself to be right because just about a few steps away from where I had my first sightings, I found some more littered the forest floor. Some have already opened their caps and some are not yet.
I went home so happily on that day because I have something to share for my friends and family as wild mushrooms are a seasonal thing of which rarely to be tasted by some.
That's the goodness brought by the rainy season as the weather is cool and there are abundance of genuinely all-natural and organic foods that nature can provide and I am looking forward that the rainy day of this to year will be beneficial to mankind and to all creatures as well as.
Congratulations!
