Few years ago, my officemates invited me to go with them in Osmeña Peak and stay overnight for a one night camping. I accepted their invitation because I also wanted to see the sunrise and sunset on the top of the mountain.
However, the day prior to our trip I received a call from my mother that she was sick so I cancelled it.
After the weekend, my officemates told me everything about their trip and I can see their happy faces as they narrated it. And I told myself....... One day....
One day I will be able to climb to the highest peak of Cebu. And one day, I did it.
The weather was pretty good yesterday so I brought an umbrella with me because I can't really tolerate the heat of the sun. I left home at around 6:00AM.
I hopped in the bus with the sign board Barili because I thought the Osmeña Peak is located in Mantalungon, Barili but I was wrong. When the bus collector ask my destination and told him about Osmeña Peak he told me I was hopped in the wrong bus. He instructed me to take the bus with the sign board Alcoy or Oslob because it will pass in the Dalaguete town.
So I alighted and I waited around 30 minutes before the bus arrived.
The travel time from Talisay City to Dalaguete is around 2 hours.
As I arrived in Dalaguete and alighted the bus, there were many motorcycle drivers greeted me and asked me if I will be going to Osmeña Peak and afterwards the negotiating of fare has started.
By the way, the Osmeña Peak is located in Mantalungon, Dalaguete, Cebu. If you are coming from Cebu City, take a bus going to Alcoy or Oslob. Let the driver drop you in Dalaguete town. From there, there were many motorcycles available going to Mantalungon, Dalaguete. Do not take the bus going to Mantalungon, Barili.
If you have planned to visit Osmeña Peak, please see below for the motorcycle fare rate.
Before Pandemic
Motorcycle Capacity: 2 passengers
Php100.00/person ~ one way only
During Pandemic
Motorcycle Capacity: 1 passenger due to the health protocol
Php300.00/person ~ one way only
The fare was too expensive so I decided to change a plan. My second plan was heading to Oslob since I was already close to that town. But a few minutes later, there was a motorcycle driver approached me and told that he will convey me to Osmeña Peak for Php300.00 fare back and forth. I was not skeptical to grab the offer.
As we arrived in the Tourism Information Center of Mantalungon, I paid php50.00 for the entrance fee. According to the staff, the tour guide is mandatory and I have to pay php100.00. It was ok with me because I am not familiar of the place and I also love talking with the local/s. They can feed me information about the place, the history of the place in particular.
There was no paved road going to the peak of the mountain. You will only rely to the rocky road. The road was also steep. I had been rested every now and then to catch my breathe. While resting, I had enjoyed the picturesque scenery that surrounds me.
We hiked almost 30 minutes going to the peak. As we reached the peak, it painted smile on my face because of the stunning beauty. I closed my eyes for a while and let the cold breeze wrapped my whole body. I was greatly mesmerized of its beauty.
You should be careful as you climb in the big rocks because you might fall down, some of the rocks are slippery. The worst thing might happen to you when you get fell is that you will probably fall in the cliff. Behind the big rocks is already a cliff. So always be careful.
I was fortunate because my tour guide was good in photography and she was able to capture a nice photos.
As I checked the photos, I was happy and contented. It was nice.
I was greatly satisfied of her service. It's not only because of the nice photos but because of her whole performance as a tour guide. She definitely knew her role.
She shared many stories with me and was enjoyed listening to her. This is what I love in travelling. I could hear many inspiring stories from the locals.
That was my experienced yesterday and I hope you enjoyed reading. Have a great day everyone!
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
