Can Cannabis cure Covid? This is the question that many researchers have tried to answer.
Cannabis has gained traction in recent years as more people look forward to using alternative medicine. The substance has therapeutic properties that researchers found to be effective in pain relief, easing anxiety, and reducing inflammation. These are reasons why CBD products have become more famous by the year.
Then, Covid-19 came. Aside from vaccines, scientists are constantly looking for more potent treatments that can speed up the prevention and recovery from the disease. '
A recent study published in the journal Aging stipulated that Cannabis may help patients experiencing severe acute respiratory distress, a body condition that may happen when one gets Covid. Some scientists assign a different term for the severe acute respiratory distress condition. They often name it the 'cytokine storm.' During the 'cytokine storm, the body may weaken due to an increase in the inflammation of the cytokines.
Aside from severe acute respiratory distress, Covid-19 patients may also suffer from lung fibrosis. This condition happens when damage occurs in one's lungs that may result in scarring. An obvious symptom of this condition is difficulty in breathing.
Scientists are eyeing for cannabis' healing properties to slow down or stop inflammation in the lungs. Among the various types of Cannabis, C.Sativa may fulfill this role in reducing the cytokine storm and inflammation levels.
Test results found out that Cannabis can effectively reduce cytokines such as TNFa and IL-6. These are potent cytokines that scientists must address when one wants to block a cytokine storm and spreading of Covid.
For now, this remains a possibility, and researchers would still like to conduct trials regarding the effectiveness of CBD in curing Covid-19. Meanwhile, the healing properties of Cannabis may help alleviate the discomfort and anxiety that Covid-19 patients feel. They may want to use Cannabis to reduce body aches, sore throat, and headaches.
