Just Sharing My Koi Pets

These are my starter koi collection. This hobby started when my friend gave me a 3 inch kuhako koi. The fish is very fascinating , so. do my research on the different breeds iand varieties of Koi.
After two months i built a bigger fishpond just beside our home. Its big enough for my starter set.

My favorite the biggest two step Kuhako. The red orange color is very vivid and clean making a nice contrast to the pearl white main skin color of the fish.

The Varieties of Koi

There are 3 main varieties of koi which is the Kohaku, Sanke and Showa. The kohaku is the primary breed of koi . Koi enthusiasts and breeder valued koi based on the following characteristics:
Body- the koi body is ideally shaped like a strong tree that shows robust, vigor and strength.
Quality - of a koi is determined by the of the head the thickness of tails and fins. Most importantly the base skin color which is usually white should be smooth clean and pearly white and is free free impurities.

Pattern - distinguishes the variety and uniqueness of the koi. Each pattern has its name. What is being sought after is the smoothness of the shape that is usually crowning the the head and with additional color pattern aesthetically arranged from which the variety and type is derived.

Kois are the favorite pet in Japan due to their culture and sentimental value that is handed down to the next generation.
