It has been a terrific resurgence from Afghanistan today! They were pushed on the back foot earlier by a good batting display by Sri Lanka but bounced back this morning to clean the lower order in a short span of time. Perhaps, Mathews' hit wicket dismissal at the stroke of close of play last evening might turn out to be a defining moment in this game! Ibrahim Zadran and Noor Ali batted with grit and determination and saw the new ball off. Sri Lanka employed the short ball tactic through Asitha Fernando but it didn't prove to be fruitful. Jayasuriya toiled long and hard from the other end for the most parts of the day but without success. Noor Ali was done in by a brilliant reverse swinging delivery from Asitha to give some respite to the hosts. But, Ibrahim carried on and found an able ally in Rahmat. The former was dropped on 63 by Madushka and he made full use of that. He scored his maiden ton and has bailed his side out of choppy waters. The second new ball is only 5 overs away and that might be Sri Lanka's biggest hope to trigger a turnaround. But, the pitch is still a flat one with the exception of the odd ball turning and bouncing. The hosts are still ahead in the context of the game but the visitors are not far away from making it even. Join us tomorrow for Day 4. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
