When I was on my photo-travel to Iceland, this place, called "Solheimasandur Plane Wreck" was already getting some popularity. If you want to know why, check out the bottom of this post once you finish enjoying the beautiful views I've managed to capture while exploring the place myself. :)
The plane crash site looks like it has been frozen in time yet I got the feeling it still keeps its energy and the plane is ready (almost) to take off. Of course, the amazing nature of Iceland added to the sensation.
Getting there was only possible on foot at the time. No idea how it was before that popular musical video by Justin. Not that Justin we all love, the other one, heheh, if you know what I mean :))) The improvised car "parking" near the main Road 1 is about four kilometers away so prepare for a 40-60 minutes walk in the desert. I was carrying my 12 kilograms photo backpack with me so it was more than 40 minutes and we had few stops to capture some views along the road:
Same distance on the way back, of course and different views towards the mountains and glaciers. Layers of black volcanic pebbles and brown "soil"... Plus the typical clouds floating so low, one gets the feeling they could be touched!
I've never seen views like these before:
Not static at all, isn't it?
My friends also enjoyed the views, we spent a lot of time there, covering many angles and perspectives.
It seems someone had practiced shooting. Human stupidity is limitless, unfortunately...
Had this monster taken any life? I don't know and I am not sure I want to know... I enjoyed being there and I am so thankful for having the chance to travel to Iceland. I would love to visit this amazing island in the winter.
Stay safe, thank you!
