It is a city one could breath deeply, inhaling those healthy sea fumes and the aroma of the colorful Belgian city-by-the-sea life, full of contrasts, of course!
I've been always attracted by the settlements near the sea. People living in them are quite different from those habituating the interior of country, like myself, for example. One could tell the difference quite easily as it could be seen in virtually everything, starting with how people there are more positive, the food, the street art, ect. I must say... people by the sea know how to enjoy life!
Check out for example this huge art installation below. Perhaps it looks like made of cardboard, it's called Beaufort Beeldenpark: Rock Strangers - Arne Quinze and as you may guess, it's neither but metallic instead, heheh :)
If I have all the time I would probably recommend tens of places to check out there as there were tens that impressed me much while we were there.
I liked the port a lot, so here is a black and white impression:
Another place one should not miss is the old central part with typical Flanders buildings:
Guess what is in this picture... Yes, Belgium is famous for its diamonds but here you see only the refection of the sea waters in the windows of the port authorities main building :)
If one decides to take a walk at the Oostende Pier one will see many different sea birds, some very shy and others... not so much ;)
Or just run besides the fountain sprinklers, it is not forbidden but encouraged instead! Soooo refreshing!
The city became popular also with its sand festivals. Some of those structures or probably I must say art pieces, are quite impressive, I could only imagine the amount of work to create something like this for instance:
I guess the sand building above has been inspired by the amazing Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul - another place one must visit!
Its glassworks are really stunning and when the organ plays... words are not necessary any more!
Another activity I recommend - ramble the borders between the "old" and the "new" parts of the city - sometimes one could find there amazing pieces of street art that don't exist for too long and are replaced by new and even more creative items...
Thank you! Stay safe!
