Caring single father and good-natured quiet Marcello lives in a poor Italian suburb. He makes a living grooming dogs, and the ultimate dream is to take his daughter to the sea. Marcello tries to please everyone, even the local bully Simon, who over and over again parasitizes on his responsiveness. The bandit drags Marcello into his dark deeds, and he remains dog-like loyalty, even when it comes to arrest. Because of Simon's crimes, his uncomplaining friend goes to jail for a year.
