Water Hyacinth

24.11.2020

It is a species of aquatic plant. However, it is not wrong to call it a kind of flowering plant because this plant has flowers with a beautiful purple color. This flower looks amazing when it is floating in the water while holding flowers in this aquatic plant.

This aquatic plant is called water hyacinth. I collected this aquatic plant from a submerged place called Panihati. However, this aquatic can be seen floating in the water almost everywhere. This aquatic plant is a growing plant.

It grows very fast in water. This water hyacinth is a free-flowing hydrophyte perennial plant. These are usually endemic to the tropics. The leaves of this plant tend to be very dense, broad and shiny.

The leaves can grow up to 1-1.5 m above the water. The plant also has a stem across its leaves that has nodules that look like a kind of bulb at its base above the surface of the water through which it floats.

These nodules are hollow and burst with a beautiful sound when pressed on its inflorescence. Usually young children in rural areas use it in this way to play. The roots of these aquatic plants hang under water and the roots look black.

The plant then has a steep stem that supports the flowers in the plant. The flowers of this plant are seen to be pollinated by bees.

These aquatic plants are often kept in ponds, one of the advantages of which is that the fish farmed in the ponds find shelter in these dense plants or some parts are used as food for the fish. These are aquatic plants that, if kept in a corner of the pond, can quickly grow stalks and spread to all ponds.
