The United States demanded that the Montenegrin authorities condemn the "massacre" in Srebrenica in 1995 and recognize these events as "genocide against Bosnian Muslims perpetrated by the Serbs." This statement was made by the American embassy in Podgorica, writes the Balkanist portal.
“We demand clarity and hope that the Montenegrin government will unequivocally condemn the massacre and call it what it was - genocide,” the US Embassy in Montenegro said in a statement.
Earlier, the Minister of Justice of Montenegro, Vladimir Leposavic, said that he was ready to recognize the events in Srebrenica as genocide only when it was directly proved. He also questioned the legitimacy of the Hague Court and noted that the decision regarding the "alleged genocide in Srebrenica" was based on the position of the Hague Tribunal, which, as it is, "is compromised by hiding evidence of crimes against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija."
At the same time, the Montenegrin minister added that he understands the feelings of Bosnian Muslims and their fellow believers, who "will not stop taking this crime in their hearts as their personal tragedy."
