Over the past day, 103.7 thousand new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in India. This is the largest daily increase since the start of the pandemic, the country's health ministry said.
In total, over 12.5 million cases of COVID-19 infection have already been registered in the country. About 741 thousand patients continue to be treated in hospitals, India ranks third among countries in the world in terms of the number of infected.
Most of the cases are in the state of Maharashtra - over the past day, more than 57 thousand new cases of the disease have been confirmed here. Due to the spread of infection, the authorities in the region have extended the night curfew and allowed shopping centers, bars, restaurants and small shops to operate only to deliver food and parcels. Chhattisgarh and Karnataka are also among the top three states of the country in which the coronavirus is most often affected.
