New electric car from the unrecognized state

In the unrecognized state of Northern Cyprus, they have developed their own electric car, which is now being prepared for serial production. The Gunsel B9 was created from scratch at the largest university in the country - Near East University (NEU). The brand is named after the sponsor of the university and the investor of the project - the dollar billionaire Suat Gunsel

The B9 was first presented in November 2020, the other day the car was shown to the Minister of Industry of Turkey Hasan Buyukdeniz, he expressed moral support for the initiative.

Gunsel is a subcompact three-door hatchback with a length of about 3.6 meters, the body structure here is typical for small-scale cars - frame-panel, that is, the role of the supporting structure is played by a welded from steel pipes "cage", outside it is hung with molded composite panels.

The electric car project is led by Suat's son, NEU professor Irfan Gunzel, who says he is realizing his father's childhood dream, who has a passion for cars. Development went on for a long ten years, with NEU fundamentally engaged in the complete creation of the machine - from design to construction and construction of prototypes. In this way, the Gunzels want to demonstrate how hardworking and consistent the Turkish Cypriots are, despite the economic blockade of the country by the whole world.

The B9 is powered by a 120 kW (163 hp) electric motor on the rear axle, powered by a lithium-ion battery, and has a range of 350 kilometers per charge. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h takes 8 seconds, top speed - 170 km / h.

Currently, the Gunsel B9 exists only in a right-hand drive version - in the Turkish part of Cyprus, left-hand traffic is preserved, as on the rest of the island. However, NEU designers say that making a left-hand modification will not be a problem: however, the only possible export market for this model is Turkey, because the supply of products from Northern Cyprus to other countries is illegal.
