Geely Auto has officially confirmed the creation of a new global brand Zeerk, under which expensive premium electric vehicles will begin to be produced in 2021. In the creation of the new company Zeekr Company Limited, 2 billion yuan (more than $ 307 million) were invested.
For the first time, the new brand Zeekr (read as "Zikr") became known less than a week ago. Then Reuters, citing its own sources, reported that the company was created to compete with Tesla: premium electric cars built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform will be sold under the Zeekr brand, which is suitable for cars of all classes and body types.
Now Geely has officially announced the creation of Zeekr Company Limited: it will be owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (ZGH) and Geely Automobile Holdings with 51 and 49 percent shares, respectively.
Production of premium electric cars will begin in the third quarter of 2021. In the first phase, Zeekr plans to release cars for the Chinese market and sell them under the local Ji Ke brand. In parallel, the company will explore the possibilities of exporting cars abroad.
Zeekr is not limited to the production of electric vehicles: the new company plans to create an entire ecosystem for electric vehicles.
