Hey, this is 'stream of consciousness Sunday' - you'd hardly expect linear thought from me, now would ya?
(.... if you want to know what the scent of woman looks like, watch the gif above)
Where was I...?
Oh year, transformation and lots of sticky white stuff...
This is war gaming ! - get yer heads out of the gutter.
How to change this:
Into this:
(Ok, a few paints, and a tiny bit of sponge as well - I forgot to put those in the piccy).
To get egg carton papier mache 'silky smooth' - takes A LOT of work (as opposed to using loosely bounund tiees paper or something, whic is easier).
Soak the egg carton for 24 hours.
Blend the shit out of it, (we have an industrial strength blender)...after breaking it up manually as much as possible.
Strain as much water as possible out of what's left through a piece of cloth.
Dry it out - totally.
Re- blend it again, dry - until it 'fluffs up'...
THEN:
In a bowl, add a 3 tablespoons of PVA glue, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, a tablespoon of vinegar and salt (anti molding purposes), half a tablespoon of oil (any type with do), a teaspoon of baking powder.
Stir it up into a goo - masses off ultra white sticky stuff!
Then, in small bits, add the fluffy paper and knead into the sticky white stuff.
Add a little (little!) water if too gloopy - then add a tablespoon of regular baking flour to make it into a 'dough consistency' - and knead the fuck outta it ! (for a while ).
Put int he fridge for an hour - and VIOLA - enough silky smooth papier mache to make an army, some houses, some army units - and a terrain board full of good enough looking pieces.
*There are other ways to make the mache also - for coarser results ( of which used also) .
If you look at the photo above , some of the small 'walls' are very coarse (to look more like rough stones).
I also to put something in to give you a sense of scale - doh !...
Ok, you see the blocks of papier mache with the ear buds stuck in them ? (to represent units - regiments of men on the wargame)...well there are two and a half of those, to the full length of a cheapo gas ciggie lighter laid horizontal .
So yes, they are small - if painted figures were used, they would be around the 6 or 7 mm in height, size.
(this is my first time making such small scale terrain)
DIY, el cheapo, table top war gaming - as it should be !
...Getting your imaginations, your creativity, and your critical thinking skills, warmed up...
Coming up - the opidia story cont....., and what do my papier mache regiments have in common with a hottie ?
Looks tasty .
;-)

Very creative, indeed. Egg cartons!
I am going to repost it, you never know when one could use your recipe.
Though it's more work to get the mache than I would have thought.
Have fun with the troops and whatever creatures might come alive.
