Underwater Beer Kidnapping

Spring...is a beautiful time and the season began with absolutely peerless news worthy of a movie adaptation. In the Argentine city of Mar del Plata, unknown divers stole 700 liters (!!!) of craft beer from the bottom of a sunken ship.

The story began in 2018, when the owner of local craft brewery Heller Brewery and his diver friend came up with the idea of an "underwater beer." Their idea was that a beer that had spent several months at the bottom of the sea would taste completely unique because of the intense pressure.

It turned out that such experiments had already been done, so they were not the first to come up with the idea, but the men did not give up and finally realized it two years later. They brewed 700 liters of strong dark 11-degree ale, poured it into seven barrels and lowered them to the sea bottom. More specifically, in the hold of the wreck of the Kronomether, which crashed off the coast of Mar del Plata in 2014.

The friends envisioned the beer spending six months at the bottom, after which they would retrieve it and mix it with another, less specific one. The end result was supposed to be a 1,000-liter unique ale, which they had already come up with a name, Kronomether, after the ship. However, just the day before the appointed date unknown intruders stole all 7 barrels. Apparently it was other divers who got wind of the underwater beer and even knew the exact date when it was supposed to rise from the seabed.

Having discovered the loss, the friends were furious, but they did not intend to stop and said they would conduct the experiment again. And this time they would be more careful in protecting their product.
