Ramen can help Japan get rid of radioactive waste

in blurtnews •  4 years ago  (edited)

Yurina Sekine of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency bought the bones used to make broth for tonkotsu ramen and discovered that if they were stripped of meat and fat and then soaked in baking soda, they would make a sponge that would absorb radioactive strontium and heavy metals. It can be simply dropped into the tank with radioactive water in Fukushima, and the purification process will be accelerated.
