Head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Andiani said Mount Anak Krakatau still has the potential to erupt in the future.

Previously, Mount Anak Krakatau was recorded to have erupted nine times today, Friday (4/2/2022).

Visual and instrumental monitoring data indicate that Mount Anak Krakatau still has the potential to erupt," Andiani said in a statement, Friday (4/2/2022).

Andiani also said, currently the activity level of Mount Anak Krakatau is set at Level II (Alert). Where, it is recommended that people do not approach and move within a radius of 2 km from the active crater of Mount Anak Krakatau.

"The public must comply with the recommendations issued by the Geological Agency through the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, and not be provoked by untrue and irresponsible news regarding the activities of Mount Anak Krakatau," Andiani said.

"And follow directions from the authorized agency, namely the Geological Agency, which will continue to coordinate with BNPB and Ministries/Institutions, Regional Government, and other relevant agencies," he added.

Andiani also explained that the seismicity of Mount Anak Krakatau on January 16 to February 4 2022 was marked by the recording of volcanic earthquakes and surface earthquakes indicating a gradual intrusion of magma from the bottom to the surface.

"The increase in magmatic intrusion may start to occur since December 20, 2021, which is indicated by the significant number of Deep Volcanic and Shallow Volcanic earthquakes recorded," he said.

Furthermore, Andiani said, this was in line with the energy of volcanic activity as reflected in the RSAM (real-time seismic amplitude measurement) value as well as the lever pattern from the tiltmeter measurement which showed a fluctuating pattern with a relative tendency to increase in the January-February 2022 period due to changes in pressure. on the surface associated with magma fluid movement to the surface.
