Mount Krakatoa, which grows in the waters of the Sunda Strait, between the islands of Java and Sumatra, erupted violently in 1883.

At that time, the massive eruption of Krakatoa caused hot clouds as high as 70 km and a tsunami as high as 40 meters and killed around 36,000 people.

Before erupting on August 26, 27 and 28, 1883, Mount Krakatau had been coughing since May 20, 1883.

This eruption gave rise to three islands that were close to each other: Sertung Island, Rakata Kecil Island, and Rakata Island.

After Krakatoa was destroyed by a massive eruption, the Anak Krakatau was born about 50 years later.

Gunung Anak Krakatau was born on January 15, 1929.

According to Geo Magz, the Geological Magazine belonging to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Gunung Anak Krakatau was born to sea level on January 15, 1929.

"On January 20, 1929, smoke rose from a pile of volcanic material that had just emerged on the surface, which began to grow from a depth of 180 m from the sea. That was a newly born mountain which was named Mount Anak Krakatau. The child of this volcano grows 4 meters per year and fascinates many people," was the statement written in the magazine belonging to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Since Mount Anak Krakatau appeared at sea level in 1929 until now, the growth of Mount Anak Krakatau is fairly fast. For 80 years or until 2010, the height has reached 320 meters above sea level. The estimated growth acceleration is an average of 4 meters per year.

In the Geo Magz magazine belonging to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) September 29, 2011, it is stated that the growth of Mount Anak Krakatau is relatively fast.

"Looking at the very rapid growth of the cone of Mount Anak Krakatau, getting taller and bigger, then disasters like the one that occurred in 1883 eruptions can happen again. However, the size of the body of a volcano does not determine the magnitude of the threat that will occur. Even though the threat is still far in sight, but if this really happens, then the disaster will hit the Sunda Strait region," the report said in the magazine.
