Scorpions in concert, 2005 Even though they failed to get the public's attention, a 70s rock band UFO became interested in Michael Schenker's guitar playing and took an interest in hiring him as lead guitar. In 1973, Michael left and was replaced by Uli Jon Roth, under his guidance, Scorpion produced 4 consecutive albums with RCA Records: Fly to The Rainbow (1974), In Trance (1975), Virgin Killer (1976), and Taken by Force (1977). Although their albums failed to get serious attention by the public in America, they were able to achieve success in Japan. At the time of the release of Taken by Force, Roth decided to leave and form Electric Sun after feeling that his musical direction was different from that of Scorppion. Tokyo Tapes is a double live album which they recorded in Tokyo with Roth released in 1978. Soon after, Roth left the band. In 1979, Michael was fired from UFO because of his addiction to alcohol which was severe enough, he returned to join Scorpions, which the band had previously signed to Mercury Records. They then released "Lovedrive" and in the same year they underwent their first American tour, but unfortunately they again failed to get the attention of the American public even the album Lovedrive was banned from circulation in America due to the use of covers that were too vulgar. Still trapped in the trap of alcohol and drugs, Michael repeatedly missed their scheduled tour dates, until the Scorpions had to hire guitarist Matthias Jabs to replace Michael during their concerts. Michael finally left the band for the second time. Cited sources Wikipedia
