Gowardhan Puja is a Hindu festival where devotees prepare and offer a variety of vegetarian food to the god Bhagwan Shri Krshna. Devotees offer a mountain of food that metaphorically represents Gowardhan Hill, and is a kind of ritual to renew faith and take refuge in God. This festival is celebrated throughout India as well as abroad.
It is said that when the god Krishna lived on this planet he belonged to a family of shepherds. There were not many who knew of its existence, not even other gods or demigods knew about it, although those closest to it knew that it was a god. The Govardhan puja is held to commemorate the moment when Krishna shows Indra that he is not just any mortal.
