George Michael - Freedom! ’90 (Official Video)

Song: Freedom! '90
Artist: George Michael

The Song.

I won't let you down
I will not give you up
Gotta have some faith in the sound
It's the one good thing that I've got
I won't let you down
So please don't give me up
Because I would really, really love to stick around
Oh, yeah
Heaven knows I was just a young boy
Didn't know what I wanted to be (Didn't know what I wanted to be)
I was every little hungry schoolgirl's pride and joy
And I guess it was enough for me (And I guess it was enough for me)
To win the race, a prettier face
Brand new clothes and a big fat place
On your rock and roll TV (Rock and roll TV)
But today the way I play the game is not the same, no way
Think I'm gonna get me some happy
I think there's something you should know
(I think it's time I told you so)
There's something deep inside of me…

National Freedom Day

The day slavery was abolished in the United States was an achievement not only for the citizens of this nation but for the entire world, and this day is commemorated as National Freedom Day. It is a celebration that takes place on February 1 in honor of Abraham Lincoln's signing of a joint resolution of the House of Representatives and the Senate that later became the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution. President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865, although it was not ratified by the states until later.

National Freedom Day marks the beginning of Black History Month, which is observed throughout the month of February, having been the concept of this month-long celebration started in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. Woodson was a historian who founded the Association for the Study of Black Life and History, and advocated for the second week of February to be dedicated to celebrating African American history. He chose the second week of February because it coincided with the birthdays of abolitionist Frederick Douglass and President Lincoln. The weekly celebration would eventually expand to a month, with National Freedom Day as its official start.
