The first pizzeria in history
Its name is Port'Alba and it was opened in Naples back in 1738 to supply the peddlers with pizza, but later it also put tables and chairs at the customers' disposal. Still today its pizzas are cooked in the old oven covered with lava stone.
From Mozzarella to Caviar
Italians like pizza a lot: we consume more than 1 billion and a half of them every year. In the north the favorite one is Margherita, followed by Prosciutto and mushrooms. In the south, the most popular are Bufala, Norma and Frutti di mare.
The white integral and gluten free ones are on the rise. But it is enough to open the menu of a pizzeria to discover infinite variations influenced by the products of the territory and the fantasy of the chef. Even starred chefs have indulged in this theme by creating gourmet pizzas. The most exclusive? The one with caviar, of course.
4 seasons and 5 continents
The Americans beat us. In the United States we eat more than 3 billion pizzas a year, more or less the equivalent of 10 kilos per person. The most loved is Pepperoni with spicy salami, but it is also very appreciated the one with pineapple, which Australians also like. In Costa Rica pizza is seasoned with a typical local product, coconut, whereas in Sweden the most popular pizza is Banana Curry, a daring mix of sweet and salty. As spicy as a Calabrian pizza, Pakistani Chicken Tikka is made with chicken seasoned with lots of hot pepper.
