I was looking forward to put out at least one more track by the end of 2023. This ended up being that.

It is an experimental song where I took a drum beat from a friend who died back in 2015. I totally thought I may have lost the clip. I found it and sampled it. Took a loop of his drumming for the song. His name is DJ Darral. I knew him from back in Chilliwack growing up as a teen. He was into allot of pretty good electronic music. He liked DJ'ing and drumming. Once we went to a turn-table/record shop in Calgary. He knew all the gear to look for. Music was a part of our bond. Once in awhile I would think of him and remember there was a clip of him drumming before he died. So I made this song The Grave Beyond.
Darral also liked some of the darker industrial music as well. He also helped introduce me to the electronic musician Moby who I like allot as well. I showed him newer at the time artists like Amon Tobin and DJ Shadow. I found some creepy keyboard sounds and sound effects and added it to the track. I then wanted to add some random lyrics. I would just say random stuff related to the concept - the grave beyond and kept the words in the vocal that seemed to fit. The track has an overall lo-fi feel to it. Drums were recorded from someones phone in 2015 or 14 so it was not the best quality but not too bad. I was able to sample some hits and progressions so I may use some of DJ Darral's drumming again sometime and tell more stories about the guy.
There were some other songs I wanted to put out too... will maybe squeeze them into early next year. I will try to make some other newer music as well. The time is right!! I like thinking back on Darral and the track turned out ok as an experiment. I went to further distribution for fun. Here is the Spotify pre-save for the song

I think 2023 was a pretty brutal year. That's partly why I wanted to put out even more... now I'm thinking I can go ahead if I want and write a few more about 2023. Glad I got through it... oh boy 2024 is only a few hours away for me right now.
