1955 - Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley signed a management contract with Colonel Tom Parker. Parker had previously managed the 'Great Parker Pony Circus' with one of the acts being a troupe of dancing chickens.

Who's this Elvis Presley person. I've never heard of him before.

Elvis the Pelvis, his gyrations were not appreciated by a certain section of society. The bulk of the other half loved it. Teenage girls were the real problem at any event he was performing at. Their screams of adulation were so loud most attendees couldn't hear the music he was singing!

Born in Tupelo, Mississippi (I spelled it correctly first time, honest) in good old 1935 but only lived a relatively short life. He sadly passed away at a young age of 42. Within this brief tour of life he managed to make his mark on music and in the lives of many music fans.

Elvis Aaron Presley often known as "The King of Rock and Roll" for good reason has a legacy that is hard to top. Let's not forget the introduction of an entire new form of music often associated with African-American sounds being broadcast to an entire audience that has never heard this type of music before. This comes as no surprise; this era of music, the 1950s has certain connotations attached to it.

He helped break down racial barriers, shock the parents of the era while enthralling the teens all at the same time. You can't ask for much more than this.

As for the initial information referenced at the starting of this post. I had no idea The Colonel had a troupe of dancing chickens. From humble beginnings as they say.

Thanks for bringing Elvis to the world Colonel Tom Parker. You both have immense legacies.

A couple favorites of mine and I'm sure many others.

I'm all shook up.

The Colonel's interview makes me think management sucks. People can't manage themselves let alone manage another. The one think I like about the Colonel is that he is humble not to take any recognition for his promotion efforts.

The music racket is a tough business from what I've seen and it's nice to have someone in your corner thinking about your best interests.
