The oldie but classic song sung at baseball games is known to almost anyone who has the slightest notion of baseball. I've known the lyrics for many years but never knew the actual origins. I wonder who really does? We were taught these songs at a young age and they remain throughout our lifetimes.
"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is a 1908 Tin Pan Alley song by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer which has become the official anthem of North American baseball, although neither of its authors had attended a game prior to writing the song.
I find this so odd that neither have attend a game in their lifetime. Maybe they picked up the rules by osmosis or someone handed them a rulebook? This is a great piece of trivia to bring up at the ballpark.
Since we're on the topic of baseball. Today is the first time the World Series was broadcast on tv. Can you imagine watching this from the comfort of your own home if you even had a tv back in 1947? I don't think anyone had one to be honest but the power of television was starting to grow. The medium changed the landscape of society for decades to come. There have been countless historical events broadcast on it with many more to come.
On September 30, 1947, the New York Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers, 5-3, in Game 1 of the World Series—the first Fall Classic game broadcast on television. It is the second "Subway Series" between and Yankees and Dodgers and first World Series to involve a black player. Jackie Robinson of the Dodgers broke Major League Baseball's color barrier six months earlier.
