If you haven't heard of Bangtan Sonyeondan aka BTS, where have you been all this time???
To give you a better understanding of who is BTS, I could go on writing forever but the short version is, BTS is a South Korean boy band that has taken not only the K-pop industry by storm but have also achieved global domination by topping music charts all over the world. The group consists of 7 men (yes... men!) between the ages of 23 and 28 years old. Their good and stage names are Kim Namjoon (RM), Kim Seokjin (Jin), Min Yoongi (Suga), Jung Hoseok (J-Hope), Park Jimin (Jimin), Kim Taehyung (V) and Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook).
I first discovered BTS in 2018, five years after their debut in the music industry, when they had been interviewed by Ellen Degeneres on her day time show. I was intrigued since she had used terms like the "biggest boy band in the world" and "billboard singers", so I had to check it out and do more research because if they were that big, how come I had never heard of them...
I got on to Youtube and searched for BTS and clicked on the first music video that came up. At first I wasn't sure if I liked their music or not because firstly, it was in Korean, a language I had never spoken or understood and secondly they looked way too young and pretty which was extremely different from my generations idea of boy bands. However, I knew I got sucked in and became an ARMY (i.e. the name of their fanbase) when I couldn't get the beat/tune out of my head. Suddenly I found myself listening to more of their music and thank goodness for subtitles because that really helped me understand what's going on when watching their music videos.
Their music has such powerful, inspiring and positive messages behind every lyric and every song. It has helped me out of depressing, unbearable days and taught me to love myself. As a proud ARMY, I hope that every one who reads this post, take some time out to research, watch or listen to a BTS song if you haven't already and let me know what you think.
