The genre of the band, would be something like 80's progressive rock, although I haven't looked for any information about it, the sound seems vintage. Now I didn't know this day existed.
in the UK, this was post-punk darkwave - many bands signed to 4AD records, also Beggars Banquet and Rough Trade.
includes Joy Division, early Cure, Depeche Mode, the Smiths, Sisters of Mercy and oc Cocteau Twins.
Don't associate them with the post punk, new wave movement, even joy division after the death of their lead singer Ian created New order.
