Music is powerful and I love the power music gives with the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with it. There is music for every mood and if you can't find one for your mood, you haven't searched music long enough to know it.

I listened to a lot of music while growing up even though I don't know a lot of those lyrics them. I painstakingly browsed them at the cyber cafe and learned the music through that means. Music is a universal language and when you are in love with it, you will go through any length to have it close and add meanings to it.
I'm taking a trip down the memory lane and bringing out some old classic tunes. If you know these songs, let's just humble ourselves and accept that we are old but if you are young and still know these songs, definitely, you have appreciation for old times and I respect you even more for your ability to explore and pick up songs from everywhere.
The first song for today is:
Artist: "Jay Z"
Title of Song: "Hardknock Life"
One of the very few songs of Jay Z that I love. I can even remember wearing one baggy jeans back them that a lot of people call Hardknock life because "Hard Knock Life" was inscribed at the tip of that Jean. It kinda makes you feel like a good "bad boy" kind of feeling, you know?
In all honesty, everything I love about this song was the beat. I love the tunes so much and the uniqueness of the song. It was a strange and different kind of song back then and I just fell in love with the intro and the beat of the song. The first time I would appreciate a rap without understanding a word that was being said in that rap.
Despite not understanding the rap then, I managed to understand what the chorus says.
He spoke about his life's struggles and how he had to overcome the ghetto life to become a success. Indeed, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. If you want to become a success, you have to grind, you have to dig deep, you have to go all out and try to do things differently while focusing on who you are, not who the world tells you that you are. This song is still one of my favourites till date.
The second song for today is:
Artist: "Shaggy"
Title of Song: "Angel"
It took me a lot of dedication to be able to know this song and rap it back then. Till today, I can still rap this song. It stayed with me. Listening to it again now, I still sang along with it because it's one of the many songs that made growing up fun. I love this song because it speaks about tribute to women who sticks with their men regardless. It opens the eyes of guys to appreciate what they have because they are not supposed to leave gold while chasing stones. Most guys would want to have fun when they were young forgetting that there is always that one person that was there through thick and thin.
I might have to do this song for Hive Open Mic one day hahaha. It's a sweet song and I absolutely love it.
The last song for today is:
Artist: "Sade Adu"
Title of Song: "Sweetest Taboo"
I love Sade Adu a lot. It has nothing to do with the fact that she's a Nigerian and from my place of birth; Ibadan...but it has everything to do with her style of music which describes who she is perfectly; elegant, classy, soft and amazing. She's as beautiful as her songs and her style of music captured my heart beyond the words I can say.
Sade speaks about the pleasure she gets from a certain man and how this man effortlessly gets her to that pleasurable state. Every day is special because of this man and that's the thing with love. When you are in love with the right person that gives you the same energy back, love is sweet and everything just clicks but when it's with the wrong person, you soon turn into a philosopher. Love is capable of giving you the sweetest taboo especially when you have that person who just know how to get you to that point and you are willing to give that same energy back, at least.
This is what we say in my language that "they have gotten you" which means the arms of love has caught up with you and you are helpless to do anything about it. Her lyrics were deep and that's coming from a deeper place of love.

La música es poderosa y me encanta el poder que da la música con la montaña rusa de emociones que conlleva. Hay música para cada estado de ánimo y si no puedes encontrar una para tu estado de ánimo, no has buscado música el tiempo suficiente para conocerla.

Escuché mucha música mientras crecía aunque no me sé muchas de esas letras. Las hojeaba concienzudamente en el cibercafé y aprendía la música por ese medio. La música es un lenguaje universal y, cuando estás enamorado de ella, harás lo que sea para tenerla cerca y añadirle significados.
Voy a hacer un viaje por el carril de la memoria y voy a sacar algunas viejas melodías clásicas. Si conoces estas canciones, seamos humildes y aceptemos que somos viejos pero si eres joven y aún conoces estas canciones, definitivamente, tienes aprecio por los viejos tiempos y te respeto aún más por tu capacidad de explorar y recoger canciones de todas partes.
La primera canción de hoy es:

Una de las pocas canciones de Jay Z que me encanta. Incluso puedo recordar que llevaba un jeans holgados de vuelta que mucha gente llama la vida Hardknock porque "Hard Knock Life" fue inscrito en la punta de ese Jean. Te hace sentir como un buen "chico malo", ¿sabes?
Sinceramente, todo lo que me gusta de esta canción es el ritmo. Me gusta mucho la melodía y la singularidad de la canción. Era un tipo de canción extraña y diferente en aquel entonces y simplemente me enamoré de la introducción y del ritmo de la canción. La primera vez que aprecié un rap sin entender una palabra que se decía en ese rap.
A pesar de no entender el rap entonces, conseguí entender lo que dice el estribillo.
Hablaba de las luchas de su vida y de cómo tuvo que superar la vida del gueto para llegar al éxito. Efectivamente, incómoda es la cabeza que lleva la corona. Si quieres convertirte en un triunfador, tienes que machacarte, tienes que profundizar, tienes que ir a por todas y tratar de hacer las cosas de forma diferente mientras te centras en lo que eres, no en lo que el mundo te dice que eres. Esta canción sigue siendo una de mis favoritas hasta la fecha.
La segunda canción de hoy es:

Me costó mucho trabajo poder conocer esta canción y rapearla en aquel entonces. Hasta el día de hoy, todavía puedo rapear esta canción. Se quedó conmigo. Volviendo a escucharla ahora, sigo cantando con ella porque es una de las muchas canciones que hicieron que crecer fuera divertido. Me encanta esta canción porque habla de un homenaje a las mujeres que se quedan con sus hombres a pesar de todo. Abre los ojos a los chicos para que aprecien lo que tienen, porque se supone que no deben dejar el oro mientras persiguen las piedras. La mayoría de los hombres quieren divertirse cuando son jóvenes, olvidando que siempre hay una persona que está ahí en las buenas y en las malas.
Puede que tenga que hacer esta canción para Hive Open Mic un día jajaja. Es una canción dulce y me encanta.

Me gusta mucho Sade Adu. No tiene nada que ver con el hecho de que sea nigeriana y de mi lugar de nacimiento; Ibadan... pero tiene todo que ver con su estilo de música, que describe perfectamente quién es ella; elegante, con clase, suave y sorprendente. Es tan bella como sus canciones y su estilo de música ha capturado mi corazón más allá de las palabras que pueda decir.
Sade habla del placer que obtiene de un hombre determinado y de cómo este hombre la lleva sin esfuerzo a ese estado de placer. Cada día es especial gracias a este hombre y eso es lo que pasa con el amor. Cuando estás enamorado de la persona adecuada que te devuelve la misma energía, el amor es dulce y todo encaja, pero cuando es con la persona equivocada, pronto te conviertes en un filósofo. El amor es capaz de darte el tabú más dulce sobre todo cuando tienes a esa persona que sólo sabe llevarte a ese punto y tú estás dispuesto a devolver esa misma energía, por lo menos.
Esto es lo que decimos en mi idioma que "te han atrapado" lo que significa que los brazos del amor te han atrapado y no puedes hacer nada al respecto. Sus letras eran profundas y eso viene de un lugar más profundo del amor.

It's absolutely amazing how music could lift one's soul into excitement....I tend to resonate with this selection of old school music quite a beautiful thing.
