Happy Mint Julep Day !
I never even heard of a mint Julep until I read the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and then visited Savannah Georgia where everyone sits around in their Gardens drinking Mint Juleps.
Now every summer on May 30 I pick some fresh Mint from my Garden and create my first mint Juleps of the season.
Pretending I’m back in Savannah Georgia conversing with the eccentric locals, talking about the latest scandal.
“If you go to Atlanta, the first question people ask you is, "What's your business?" In Macon they ask, "Where do you go to church?" In Augusta they ask your grandmother's maiden name. But in Savannah the first question people ask you is "What would you like to drink?”
― John Berendt, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Rule number one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
― John Berendt, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
