Beat The Summer Blues

I'm felling mellow today and brought out some songs from the old neighborhood. I'm going to share with you some of the memories I had from the Chicago Blues festival. I grew up dancing in the grass to this music in Grant Park.

Today the park name was changed to something like Millennium park, but the Blues continues in Chicago. The Fest will be on June 9th this year. Nothing really seems to change in Chicago. It is too cold and each summer the Blues legends come out and defrost.

Muddy Waters - Hoochie Coochie Man

Everybody knows he's here with his black cat and mojo too. He's got one of those Les Paul guitars I see hanging on a wall in a guitar shop on the south side of Chicago. I still remember walking into that place with the dude and his Doberman sitting behind the register. He didn't have to say it. The whole environment was singing, "You better not mess with me. Wither by a guitar or get out."

Buddy Guy - Sweet Home Chicago

In one form or another this song is played at the Chicago Blues fest each year. You can say all you want about Eric Clapton but all I have is respect for him. He shows respects to the legends like they deserve. He listens and he lets them play.

Buddy Guy's Legends opened up when I was in High school and has been a big part of Chicago Blues as much as Fitzgerald's in Berwyn. The song is almost as old as my grandma but it still rocks and Buddy Guy still rock's his legends.

B.B. King - Three O Clock Blues

I like to hear Lucile sing her sweet lullaby, but still the king cannot sleep even with that sweet melody. Oh, he can't find his baby. He can't be satisfied. It's three o' clock here in Korea and I can't find my baby. Oh... the blues got me on this one. I miss my sweet home that ain't there anymore.

Lucile sings again. She knows the pain and the sorrow. She was there at 3 AM when the sun was down.

I believe this is the end.

I want you to tell my baby

to forgive me for my sins.

These tunes are my picks for a groovy afternoon this week.

I don't think I'm dropping by the Fest this week. Think globally. Act Locally. I will check out some local music this summer, even if it is from my own church.

These are great selections for the blues.

BB King has to be my favorite of bunch if I was forced to choose. Did you know that the BB stands for Blues Boy? I wasn't aware of his original full nickname Beale Street Blues Boy that was shortened over the years.

As for BB, I love your selection and always associate The Thrill is Gone with him.

Let the love of music flow!

I never had any exposure to the Blues music which is why it is the only genre of music @mineopoly where I seem to have no favorite except some Jazz music like as follows.

Thanks for sharing some cool jazz @cryptopie,

Jazz is a feeling and Blues is an even deeper feeling. Koreans have a word for feeling deep sorrow, resentment, grief, regret and anger. This is called "Han". It is expressed in traditional Korean music. It is also expressed in Blues Music.

There is a connection between Jazz and Blues. I would say one of the connecting bridges was Ella Fitzgerald.
