Claire Peterson, a high school teacher played by Jennifer Lopez, recently divorced her adulterous husband (John Corbett). She meets Ryan Guzman's character Noah Sandborn, a young guy approaching 30. With the passing of his parents, he recently relocated next door with his crippled uncle. In addition to having a million-dollar smile and appearing as though he just left a GQ photo shoot, Noah is also skilled at garage door opener repair. Such an effective mix!.

By being friends with Claire's 16-year-old son Kevin, Noah starts to win Claire over (Ian Nelson). Noah assists Kevin in dealing with some annoying bullies (doesn't it seem familiar?) and talking to the "prettiest girl in school." Kevin learns from him how to box and replace an alternator in a truck. Claire must like this guy, right? Of course, we anticipate the outcome from the moment they first meet. We are not given room to speculate by director Rob Cohen. Instead, he repeatedly presents us with awkward smiles, clumsy eye contact, and blatantly obvious perspective shots taken while his camera is stationary and lustfully staring at us. There is absolutely no mystery.
The obvious occurs, and the two start dating. Claire realizes she made a mistake right away after. Although the movie portrays it as a vulnerable act, it's really difficult to believe that. The portrayal of Claire as being helpless in the film is subpar. After all, she gives him the cold shoulder every time he enters her home. Whatever the case may be, Claire informs Noah that he made a mistake, and (in an equally expected twist), Noah abruptly transforms from the ideal good guy to a raging lunatic. Of course, signs of his instability start to appear everywhere, and soon Claire is dealing with a full-blown stalker issue.
Al ser amigo de Kevin, el hijo de 16 años de Claire, Noah comienza a ganarse a Claire (Ian Nelson). Noah ayuda a Kevin a lidiar con algunos matones molestos (¿no le parece familiar?) y a hablar con la "chica más linda de la escuela". An attorney for the criminal justice system named Barbara Curry wrote the script for this project. Initially, the focus of her narrative was on Kevin being taken away by Noah from his family and his mother's tenacious battle to win him back. That concept has much more potential than what we ultimately come up with. Instead, we get a derivative stalker thriller that hammers you with tired tropes one after the other. When the credits roll, you'll be left scratching your head in bewilderment at the story's increasingly absurd conclusion that absolutely goes off the rails.
"The Guy Next Door" takes itself too seriously and is too unapologetically silly to be decent campy fun. Lopez makes a nice effort, but there's only so much you can do with subpar material. It's difficult to believe anything we see in the story because it lacks an innovative idea. Add to it a ridiculously terrible conclusion with more loose ends than it would take to knit a sweater. Maybe some people will find enough to call this a guilty pleasure..

Inicialmente, el enfoque de su narrativa estaba en Kevin siendo arrebatado por Noah de su familia y la tenaz batalla de su madre para recuperarlo. Ese concepto tiene mucho más potencial de lo que finalmente se nos ocurre. En cambio, tenemos un thriller de acosador derivado que te golpea con tropos cansados uno tras otro. Cuando aparezcan los créditos, te quedarás rascándote la cabeza con desconcierto ante la conclusión cada vez más absurda de la historia que se descarrila por completo.
"The Guy Next Door" se toma a sí misma demasiado en serio y es demasiado tonta para ser una diversión cursi decente. López hace un buen esfuerzo, pero no hay mucho que puedas hacer con material deficiente. Es difícil creer cualquier cosa que vemos en la historia porque carece de una idea innovadora.
