With its high tension and immersive feature that draws the viewer in, the 2022 #Poland film Hellhole is in the horror genre and is one of the productions that represents its genre well with its additional features that it reflects during the viewing.
First of all, I must say that I found the movie successful with its general outlines and the success of the roles in reflecting the environment and conditions. Although it has some disturbing scenes, it is highly watchable for those who love the horror genre!
The story of a policeman assigned to investigate the case of a series of missing women who were given to a convent on the grounds that they were "possessed by the devil" and then never returned, turns into 90 minutes of gripping suspense as he investigates the fortress-like monastery.
Nowadays, it is not uncommon for some individuals and cults to exploit religious beliefs to further their goals. In fact, I'm not sure how accurate or inaccurate it is to say today, because we know that such events have existed since the past.
The movie Hellhole is a good production in terms of showing the exploitation of faith. It is unbelievable what a group of people who operate under the name of devotion to God do. Of course, after a while you realize that there is a real God (the devil) as they call him.
The exorcism activities suddenly turn into an effort to resurrect the devil with a ritual. Even in the moments when the tension is high and the immersion is high in terms of keeping the time flowing fast, it caused a cynical smile in terms of "the point where cults and exploitation of faith have come".
What I liked most about the movie was how well they reflected to the audience the fact that it was possible to enter a monastery as protected as a castle and impossible to get out. The fact that outsiders are not aware of what is going on inside is trivialized throughout the film and this trivialization leads to a loss of questioning.
In short, the movie has many of the qualities one looks for in a horror movie. Although it sometimes makes you smile and sometimes disgusts you, as I have said several times, it is a successful production.
We know that things are not always as they seem, and when the risks taken while trying to make the invisible visible become life-threatening, the pleasure of watching it increases even more.
Although the ways of being obedient, of not attracting attention, of not questioning, and of imprinting the perception that there is no way in or out vary, the main goal in all of them is to create a loyal audience.
You can watch the movie even to see the arguments, each of which is important in terms of the formation and functioning of cults. For those who love the horror genre, it will be a pleasure to watch the movie even just from the movie's point of view.
Not being able to touch certain authorities because of the pressure (!) and not knowing what is going on in those authorities should be equated with playing the three monkeys... but throughout history there have been and will be those who refuse to play the three monkeys.
I would like to make one last warning about the movie. The movie has disturbing scenes of eating human flesh and drinking human blood! I hesitated between turning off the movie and continuing. I watched the movie, but I can't eat or drink anything but water for hours! It is better to watch/not watch the movie with this in mind.
Don't let the last part fool you, overall the movie was good.
