Being responsible for the deaths of 492 people brings to mind a horrific terrorist attack, but it is not!
Yes, 492 murders exactly!
The 2017 Brazilian film O Nome da Morte is based on real events. Julio Santana is a hit man played by Marco Pigossi. For him, the victim's age, gender, reason for killing is unimportant because he is only focused on doing his job.
I must say that I was horrified when I learned about 492 murders and that the film was based on real events. But my horror triggered my desire to watch the film even more.
While watching the film, I kept trying to understand 492 murders and how he was not caught in the process. 492 different lives and different stories connected to each life!
Another thing that I learnt and was surprised while watching the film was that the assassin was known as a very good and religious person by his family and close circle. In addition to committing all these murders, it was admirable to be able to live and hide two different personalities independently of each other for years.
Even though his work was very bad, I liked the acting of Marco Pigossi as Julio. He beautifully reflected the regret he experienced in his first work as a hired killer and that his faith would lead him to hell.
When a person first commits an offence, he is subject to the judgement of conscience. Conscience constantly disturbs the personality. But when you commit the same offence over and over again, the conscience darkens and you no longer feel uncomfortable. At the beginning, Julio goes through the same conscience reckoning and then the murders are committed one after the other like a sock.
At some point, the feeling of remorse is lost, but divine justice manifests itself at unexpected moments. In the film O Nome da Morte, divine justice manifests for Julio and his wife. We realise that they got the message right when he quits his job as a contract killer, but as always, the past haunts people.
My favourite scene in the film was the song that Julio and his uncle, who turned him into a hired killer, sang karaoke in the car. Another one was the car crash scene where I thought divine justice was served.
From the beginning to the end, the film successfully reflects the entire life of the hit man to the audience in a fluid way. 492 If you have ever wondered how a murder can be committed, be sure to watch the film. Even though it has a horrifying subject, I liked the film and the way the subject was handled.
I owe money... kill someone!
My bills need to be paid... kill someone!
I need to build a house... kill someone!
I need money... kill someone!
Business is slow at the moment, lower your price and kill someone again!
That's scary enough for 5 paragraphs!
