Although the 2022 movie Blank has a low IMDB score of 4.5, there were two reasons that triggered me to watch it.
The first one; when I looked at the plot, I wanted to see the path that a writer who had a hard time due to writer's block followed in order to unblock and create a source of inspiration again. During the viewing, I thought it might offer ideas and suggestions about writer's block, which writers often face.
The second reason was that the author was secluded for a month in an environment where artificial intelligence was used and all the control was in a robot working with artificial intelligence. Frankly speaking, I am not a person who is very warm to artificial intelligence.
After watching the movie Blank, I found some answers and practical ideas about my second curiosity, but I did not come across any information about my first curiosity throughout the story of the movie.
I can safely say that the movie is very bad and deserves a low score. The writer Claire Rivers (played by Rachel Shelley) is kept in a self-perpetuating loop after she goes into seclusion. And there is nothing appealing about watching this cycle in the same room over and over again.
I have expressed my reservations about the integration of artificial intelligence into human life in other films that have dealt with artificial intelligence. Perhaps the filmmakers are of a similar mindset, because the movie sends the message that artificial intelligence can be a threat to human life.
The only positive moments of the movie were when Rita (played by Heida Reed), the artificially intelligent assistant, told the writer Claire that her only chance of getting out was if she finished the book, and when the writer finished the book in one night with writings from other writers' books and gave it to Rita.
When Rita read the book, she screamed that it was plagiarism and that stealing other people's work was a crime. For the first time I agreed with the AI robot. lololol
The only teaching of the movie was that robots with artificial intelligence, which can be produced to make human life easier, can actually make human life difficult. Other than that, the movie offered nothing, was a waste of time and even below average.
Time is precious, don't waste your precious time watching Blank if you are not one of those who look for different genres and love weirdness. Sometimes curiosity does not leave good memories. I hope the movie will be a lesson for me in this sense.
Although at the beginning I had hoped that it would have some teachings against writer's block! Unfortunately, reality and expectations often don't match!
