Sunday is the widely accepted day of rest and relaxation before engaging in another 'week' of labors and toils. As such, this Sunday I was encouraged to go spend some time for myself by target shooting.
This is the second time I have taken my 22LR RoughRider Revolver out for some practice. Like any skill or use of a tool, it takes practice to master and use safely. I am extremely safe in the handling of my firearm and use the upmost caution while storing and operating. It is only about a 15 minute drive for me to reach the public shooting range designated by my city. Basically it is on the edge of town and facing the mountain as the safe zone to fire into. There is a actual range nearby but I prefer this rugged tundra of bare desert .
I find that by using my firearm in practice I tend to slow everything down from my thoughts, breathing and movement. When aiming at the target I naturally slow it down even further to enhance my focus on the target. Even the slow methodical routine of unloading and reloading my RR is almost meditative. As shown in the video I am not a great shot, YET. I fully intend on investing the time necessary to GROW my skill & proficiency.

What does this have to do with self care? EVERYTHING. I am taking time for myself while engaging in an outdoor activity that requires me to work harder to be better.
By the end of my time shooting, I had hit the bullseye area of my target at around 40 plus feet. Not great, but BETTER than when I started. I AM HIGHLY motivated to increase this skill.
This is ONE of my self care investments I make.
What is one of yours?
