The Art of Perception - Part 1

in blurtlife •  3 years ago  (edited)

Oftentimes, I'll be discussing something with somebody and it will inspire me for what my next post will be. Perhaps my inspiration this time is somewhat strange and I'll get to that in the comments later, or if I don't get any comments, then I'll write another post about it another day. Having said that, if I don't receive any comments, then that probably means that this post doesn't garner enough interest to warrant another post. My, my. What a pickle that presents. I really hope that it doesn't come to that...

The thing that I had been reminded of was something that I read in a personal development book and the real value in this post will come later (like I said, in the comments or in another post). But for now, this post will end with me asking you a question...

What do you see in this drawing?

Please be specific and I ask that before you comment, please do not read the comments from others.

I see a beautiful young woman with her head turned away from the camera …. She has a mole along her left jaw. And is wearing a black fur coat.

I see a women with a big hat and fur coat turning and looking to the right.

Would you say that the woman is young or old?

I would say she is young, but it is hard to say since she is turned away from the camera.

I see a beautiful pen and ink drawing of a women’s profile. She is wearing a black fur coat and a hat with feathers.

In your opinion, is the woman young or old?

We all see something from our own personal experiences, so what is true for you may not be true for me. It all depends on all the learning you have had including the dogmas learned from society and those taught by your parents, all that complemented with all your learning. Art depends on the eye of the beholder.

This is true...

what we see is a perspective, not the truth.

Which leads me back to my original question in my post - what do you see in the picture?
