I've been thinking about getting a new mobile phone for a little while now and now that my iPhone 5s has stopped running one of the few apps that I actually use the time has come for me to make a decision.
With the average smartphone now a pocket busting 15cm long (source), I'll do well to avoid carrying anything smaller than what I consider to be a tablet in my pocket. If it fits in my pocket. I'll probably need to get one of those man-bag things.
I don't do much on my phone. I have a few favourite apps and mostly us it to browse the internet whilst on the move and for taking photos of the kids.
As I mentioned in my previous post on the subject, I was keen to move away from Apple so researched Android phones.
The problem became very apparent very quickly. Mobile Phones are expensive. We're talking £500 minimum for pretty much anything or a ridiculous monthly contract. I searched for phones with good cameras - the Google Pixel 6, Samsung Galaxy S21 and latest iPhone 13 were all highly rated. but certainly not light on the budget.
I eventually found the Xiaomi Rednote 10 Pro, a (comparatively) budget friendly £229 and all prepared to press the "Buy now" button, I discover it's absolutely huge. And it turns out, that Android phones are as likely to drop support for the OS just as quickly as Apple do.
So maybe it's back to Apple. I love the look of the iPhone 13 mini but it's soooo expensive. The cheaper iPhone SE (2nd generation) is £250 cheaper so I think the decision is down to these 2. It does mean that I don't have to learn a new OS and can (hopefully) migrate my data fairly easily... and I can continue to test the iPhone apps that I sell so it makes a lot of sense.
But I don't like Apple.
Hahaha, love the "I don't like Apple" 😂
