I mean, don’t get me wrong here. I still post there every single day, we have a community on there, in fact I’ve got a bunch of communities on there, many yet to be written too because I’ve not found the perfect tool to do that. yet.
But back to the point, as much as it’s awesome that hive came out of steam and survived their own egos the first time around as the governing body of witnesses that collude together to maintain their gambling grip over the platform, what’s the damage done to the ‘brand’ these days?

I mean from the outside looking in, it’s not even in the top 100 any more on the most popular site coinmarketcap, even on the “one you are supposed to look at” coingecko it’s ranked at 149, not good for a platform that supposedly has all these whiz bang upgrades, hard forks, and projects that look like the successful ones on ethereum but don’t actually have the same kind of impact.
I mean props for the hardcore few that keep the dream alive but to me the place is a cesspit of just people who know if they talk about the platform they will get an upvote, I’ve even seen calls for more diversified content from the leofinance group so they are even sick of it.
It’s the same old people, saying the same old thing, anybody who has any creative spirit automatically get’s nuked or marked down when they don’t play army ranks with the gamblers at the top playing hyperbole bingo with catchphrases and putting their head on characters they pretend to be — too many people living ALT account lives man.
It’s sliding, sliding downwards all the time, no matter what they do, so what’s wrong with HIVE, why does it look like a spam fest on twitter (not to me, I’ve muted all words and hashtags) I’d put it down to mostly whale megalomania, I mean, even blurt got fed up with the power tripping that they set this up and removed downvoting, it certainly feels like a safer, immutable place to post.
I mean, really, if you don’t worry about rewards you’ve got it made, the code is there, you can fork it and if you know what you are doing make your own ecosystem away from egosystem that caters for what you and your tribe need, you don’t need to be a good Boy Scout and fall in line to people who view you intellectually beneath them, you simply don’t have to feel that way, with over nearly 6000 coins and cryptos you really can be anywhere these days.
So part shame and part self reflection, what’s good for some is not always good for all, when the rhetoric desperation pleas come out talking about ‘changing the world’ you know you are dealing with a pseudo james bond character or micro justin sun in training.
I love the technology of blockchain, I love what hive can do, is doing, continues to do and for that it will always have value but for it to change the world? Nah, some people who profess to be leader nodes there need to change themselves, I don’t see an inch of humility, compassion, just another bunch of cranky kids who wanna ‘run the world’ their way and stick it to any man, because fuck yeah, print that money, spin that table, pretend your winning while the planet crumbles around your casino.
Like I said, this may sound like a major diss on hive and I guess in some ways it is, it’s so sad to see what people decided to employ as a ruleset, to the way they decided to govern, to make a little dysfunctional anti-social club getting high on their own supply. It’s all very well that you bravely held the pass as 300 and defeated wave after wave of foreign enemies.
But you never defeated the enemy inside, you just allowed them to keep on throwing the dice, to believe in their war cry and crimes and eventually you’ll be splayed out on the ground with the arrows of another chain that made the technology look cumbersome and elitist, lessons will be learned for sure but by then it will be too late, the moment will have come and gone and you’ll just look like the kid that got the new badge for building fires at cub scout club.
It’s a damn shame to see HIVE losing positions so fast, I personally believe it totally deserves it’s place in the top ten somewhere as a social utility token of some sort for sure, the free transactions is the killer feature but if we are constantly just digging in heels and telling people how it’s gonna be then eventually you’ll just be a BBS consigned to memory.
I think most crypto projects will go the same way, even blurt, it’s very much a choose your ideal criminals, radicals and alt-everything people when you hit these decentralised platforms, not the relative safe/apathy zones of centralised platforms. The retention on blockchain is absolutely awful, that’s because the ones doing the ethics cleansing desperately need to do it for themselves.
But they never will, this is just an outlet for broken people to keep doing damaging things to people they disregard to their usefulness. I think even the Borg were more friendly, at least they stopped and broadcasted what their intention was before they tractor beamed you in.
Cheers for Reading,
Humble x
Hive moved up a bit, ….. but I prefer Blurt and Dtube
