I love 'portraits in the background' - sometimes background is all you may get, from quite a usual and not so intresting model. This is a lucky unstaged shot, and a good example of how this rule works.
This summer, perhaps for the first time in my life, I photographed an ordinary earthworm. And, know what? I found them to be pretty damn photo-friendly! it was very mobile as a model, and posed great. Just remember to get some water (so that their skin will shine) and ofc take care of good light and background. Mossy deadwood, bark, rotten wood - always benefit to the background.
Unidentified little critter.
Caterpillar is cooling down in a tiny leaf pond.
A true knight of the grass jungle ... clothed in ornated armor.
Slug can be photo-friendly, too... under a certain angle!
My wife asked me to take some macro shots of the meadow grass so that the pollen can be seen clearly. This is one of them ... but, of course, during the photographing there appeared a "bonus" - in this way, the shot became more interesting, any creation always brings the frame to life.
