Closing out Thursday was Saint Patrick's Day, the Patron Saint of the Irish. Here in #Venezuela, we are on day 734 since the announcement of the #quarantine due to the #Covid19 #pandemic, so it is the third day of this celebration that we spend with the pandemic.
I was thinking that this party is very showy in the North American context, because of the Irish migration on its east coast and what it meant at the time, but with the advances in the media and the spread of values and images, it turns out that We can find this celebration in many parts of the world. A colleague once told me that parties in Japan were held in which the color green and shamrocks abounded, these are the basic symbols of this Saint.
I found it striking to think that this character, to whom things as diverse as having expelled the snakes from Ireland or having used simple metaphors to explain to people the relevant dogmas of the Christian faith are attributed, is a Saint who is common to both Catholics and Protestants, at least as far as I have been able to know, that catches my attention because in matters of religion I am always more used to finding discrepancies than coincidences.
In Venezuela, we don't have anything special for the commemoration of this date, but another friend tells me that in some stores and shopping centers you can see decoration alluding to this date... in short, things of transculturation, syncretism or simple commercialization, I don't know what the cause is, but it may well be that in some years we will be around these parts celebrating this day with a parade, wearing green, using shamrocks as clothing accessories or ornaments, or we may even have people who to dress up as elves. That of the goblins also has to do with Saint Patrick, because it is said in the legend that the goblins did not like his religious proselytism and sabotaged his preaching, so they had confrontations and the saint managed to defeat them and force them to give in.
There are those who say that all the expulsions that are mentioned are symbolic things, about the religious dispute between Celts and Christians at that time, the Celts were the ones who arrived first and lived there, the Christians spread later and were very marked by their search for new believers and manage to eliminate all other religions.

Cerrando el Jueves, fue día de San Patricio, Santo Patrono de los Irlandeses. Acá en #Venezuela estamos en el día 734 desde que se realizó el anuncio de la #cuarentena por la #pandemia de #Covid19, así que es el tercer día de esta celebración que pasamos con la pandemia.
Estaba pensando que esta fiesta es muy vistosa en el contexto norteamericano, por la migración irlandeza en su costa este y lo que significó en su momento, pero con los avances de los medios de comunicación y la propagación de los valores y las imágenes, resulta que podemos encontrar esta celebración en muchas partes del mundo, incluso me comentaba una vez un colega que se realizaba en Japón fiestas en donde abundaba el color verde y los tréboles, estos son los símbolos básicos de este Santo.
Me resultaba llamativo pensar que este personaje, al que se le atribuyen cosas tan diversas como haber expulsado las serpientes de Irlanda o haber usado metáforas sencillas para explicar a las personas los dogmas relevantes de la fe cristiana, es un Santo que es común tanto para los Católicos como para los Protestantes, al menos hasta donde he podido saber, eso me llama la atención porque en cosas de religión siempre estoy mas acostumbrado a encontrar discrepancias que coincidencias.
En Venezuela no tenemos nada especial para la conmemoración de esta fecha, pero me cuenta otro amigo que en algunas tiendas y centros comerciales si se ve decoración alusiva a esta fecha... en fin, cosas de la trasculturización, de sincretismo o de simple comercialización, no sé cual sea la causa, pero bien puede ser que en algunos años ya estemos por estos lados también celebrando este día con algún desfile, vistiendo de verde, usando treboles como accesorios de ropa o adornos, o puede que incluso tengamos gente que le dé por disfrazarse de duendes. Eso de los duendes también tene que ver con San Patricio, pues se dice en la leyenda que a los duendes no les gustaba su proseliismo religioso y sabotearon su prédica, así que tuvieron enfrentamientos y el santo logró derrotarlos y obligarlos a ceder.
Hay quien deice que todas las explusiones que se mencionan son cosas simbólicas, sobre la disputa religiosa entre celtas y cristianos en esa época, los celtas eran los que llegaron primero y vivieron allí, los cristianos se propagaron después y estuvieron muy marcados por su búsqueda de fieles nuevos y lograr eliminar a todas las demás religiones.

Today I went out to buy some vegetables, this is becoming a habit for me, that of going to buy every Thursday. Not much happened, I just felt a little weird, on the road where I was walking I saw several people, but only three of us were wearing a mask, when buying I noticed that I was the only one wearing a mask... I would like to leave to use it too, but I still have very fresh in my memory the death of three neighbors of my father's sister-in-law, as well as how serious that same sister-in-law was due to the complications of that disease, so I admit that I am afraid of it, that you risk death while drowning is not something I like.
In other things, I don't have much to report, my situation these days is more or less monotonous, the things that have recently failed still caused problems today, but the incredible thing is that one really gets used to everything if one has to put up with it for Long enough, well, I don't like adapting to a sick world, but I have to survive.

El día de hoy salí a comprar algunas hortalizas, esto se me está haciendo costumbre, eso de ir a comprar cada jueves. No pasó mucho, solamente que me sentí un poco raro, en la carretera en donde caminaba vi a varias personas, pero solo tres de nosotros llevábamos mascarilla, al comprar noté que yo era el único que tenía puesta una mascarilla... me gustaría dejar de usarla también, pero aún tengo muy fresca en mi memoria la muerte de tres vecinas de la cuñada de mi padre, así como lo grave que estuvo esa misma cuñada por las complicaciones de esa enfermedad, así que yo admito que le tengo miedo, eso de que tengas riesgo de una muerte mientras te ahogas no es algo que me agrade.
En otras cosas, no tengo mucho que reportar, mi situación en estos días es más o menos monótona, las cosas que han fallado recientemente igual dieron problemas hoy, pero lo increíble es que uno de verdad se acostumbra a todo si se tiene que soportar por el tiempo suficiente, en fin, no me agrada adaptarme a un mundo enfermo, pero toca sobrevivir.
